I was talking to a friend in the cast and they said logistically, the three theatre's that this show could go in to (exactly as it is now) are: Palladium Collesium Dury Lane Good luck to 'em filling one of those for several months with this show. Is this the same person who thought 'Heisenberg' would work really well in Wyndham's Theatre perchance? It's utter folly I tell you. I think they're losing their minds. Oh no, it’s not that it SHOULD go in there, it’s just that they are the theatres that the show in it’s current state could fit in to. I whole heartedly agree that it wouldnt fill any of those 3

A limited run at the Chatalet in Paris would work. Although I would prefer them to do their own production, as I’m sure it would be better That’s a really good call, but not reopening until late 2019...

I haven’t actually ever heard Bonnie Langford do any singing, despite her musical credentials, but if she isn’t still in Eastenders she’d be more than capable of dancing and acting, in my opinion, the role of Phyllis. In many ways it would have been really interesting to have seen her play the part recently opposite Zizi to see how the personal family connection influences both performances. But thinking about, we are so lucky to have such a wide spectrum of incredible ladies who could play this part, and any of the leads in Follies.

Why move it to the West End, where a niche show will get swallowed up? Where they can just re-mount it in the Olivier, which is great space for it for 3/4 months, you don't need a new set, so hopefully this will make some money. Also the National is a poignant venue, as it does resemble a car park!!!

She played Rumpleteazer and can be heard on Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer, as well as other solo lines throughout the recording. (A distinctive voice, a bit shrill back then, more a ‘character’ singer but that was in the early 80s!)

I don't think Bonnie Langford is right for Phyllis - at all - but in the right role she's wonderful. She played Roz (the stuffy secretary) in the tour of '9 to 5' a few years ago, and she was the best thing in the show. She sang well and danced superbly, and took a very, very mediocre song and turned it into the evening's biggest showstopper. She's great. She just isn't a Phyllis. Or a Sally, come to that.

Bonnie Langford can sing - I remember being very surprised at her voice when she played Mabel in Broadway Pirates at Drury Lane (back in the day). She never quite lived down the child performer thing and it took her appearance on Dancing on Ice (I think?) to revive her musical career.
But agree with above posters she isn't right for Follies.

I'd argue too that she's not write for either Sally or Phylis. But could she play Stella? I mean, we know she's a wonderful dance, so Who's That Woman could be a great number for her! And I thought she was fabulous in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels when I saw her in town!

I would love if they could cast this show with all the West End Divas of the 80s and 90s
Sally: Maria Friedman / Joanna Riding / Kathryn Evans Phyllis: Ruth Henshall / Rosemarie Ford (What Happened To Her?) / Caroline O'Connor / Hannah Waddingham Carlotta: Patti Lupone / Elaine Paige Heidi: Claire Moore / Sarah Brightman Stella: Sonia Swaby / Bonnie Langford
Unfortunatly i don't know the show well enough however from when i saw it at the National felt it lacked a little something it wasn't all I wanted it to be however can't say i was fond of either Imelda or Janie. It could do with some of our 80s / 90s powerhouse performers maybe throw in Marti Webb / Clare Burt / Gay Soper into the mix
Would also be nice to see some great American performers over too Donna Murphy / Audra McDonald / Marin Mazzie etc

OOh Hannah Waddingham is a good shout as Phylis. I'd like to see her and Jo Riding actually. Would have 0 issue with Caroline O'Connor either - she was great from what I saw of the Chicago production... EP seems the sensible Carlotta choice - it's a bit of a name I guess. I really want to see Bonnie Langford as Stella now!

Not really related but Imelda is on Graham Norton tonight, she probably won't mention if she will be in Follies again but am very excited she will finally be on the sofa, let's hope none of that audience have brought food along.

The role was a perfect fit.

Especially if her Phyllis is Donna Murphy, it would be a lovely Passion reunion.

Feels right in this thread to acknowledge the passing of Jan Maxwell, who played Phyllis in the 2011 Broadway production opposite Bernadette. Very sad.

Oh I agree, The pairing of Joanna Riding as Sally and Hannah Waddingham as Phyllis would be amazing! Can we add Kathryn Evans as Carlotta please? Her voice and style on I'm Still Here would perfect. I'm fan girling already. Please make this happen!

Why is everyone assuming the entire principal cast will be replaced? I'm sure most of them will revive their roles especially Tracie Bennett, Josephine Barstow etc. I'd imagine Janie Dee will reappear too especially if she wins a couple of trophies for her performance. The only questions really are Staunton (won't she be doing Gypsy on Broadway?) and Quast who said he's done with theatre... Unless I missed some press release about an entire cast change (?) I'm open to correction!

I don't think there's been anything specific about an entire cast change, just that the director said in the press release (in What's On Stage, at least) that all parts were up for grabs - or words to that effect!

I see. Well hopefully most of them return (most especially Bennett because frankly I can't imagine anyone else doing that role within the framework of this particular production; she was perfection. The only person that may come close is someone like Sally Dexter, who actually bears a resemblance to the original Carlotta, Yvonne DeCarlo. I'd imagine she'd have a field day with I'm Still Here.)

I'd be very surprised if Staunton, Dee and Bennett aren't already booked up with roles for the next year. They are in demand, so i would be surprised if they are free this time next year.

If there's no Quast I'm not interested. I saw him play Ben. If that was his last musical theatre role it left me very happy.

I’d be incredibly surprised if at least one of the ‘Follies’ doesn’t return. If I had to guess, I’d say Janie Dee. Imelda wouldn’t return I don’t think. I also can’t see Phillip voice-of-a-god Quast coming back either, much to my disappointment.
