Of the Revivals, this and 42nd Street are going up against eachother at the Oliviers. And if they are regular old Olivier voters, I suspect this will undeservedly win. Namely because of the cast and the fact it is at the National. That's a bit unfair, just because you're not a fan of Follies doesn't mean it doesn't deserve to win.

It's an opinion... on a discussion board. That said, Janie and Tracie totally deserve to win. As does Clare Halse or, I'm sure, Rachel John. Hey, in an ideal world, Zoe Rainey and Dianne Pilkington will get nominated, but thats just my opinion.

Would have to disagree Dan, as fabulous as 42nd Street is (and I bloody love it) for me Follies is the production that will get the awards I reckon.

I completely agree with you, it will get SOME of the awards. Does it deserve SOME of those awards, I personally don't think so. Plus, who are we kidding, Hamilton will win it all anyway. In my honest opinion... Follies deserves noms for Revival, Janie, Tracie, Director and its Set and Costume at least. 42nd Street deserves noms for Revival, Stuart, Clare, Set, Costume, Lighting, and Choreography at least. So in that sense, it will be fairly balanced. Either could win Revival, but otherwise, it has to beat out Hamilton for the other ones anyway.

Next to 42nd Street, which is essentially a mechanical reproduction of a fifteen-year-old staging with a new number thrown in to give a bone to the singer they've cast in the above-the-title starring role, whether Follies deserves a best revival award is - how can I put this? - not a difficult case to argue. I did enjoy 42nd Street, actually - but I couldn't escape the feeling that it had been staged and (mostly) performed by robots (the two exceptions were Clare Halse and Jasna Ivir, who both managed to transcend the duracell-ad of a production surrounding them).

Ya'll don't have to agree with me, thats fine. Oh I loved 42nd Street, one of my favourite shows of the year. I’d give Stuart my supporting actor, and give the show Choreography and Lighting Design for sure. But I’d give Follies best actress (Janie) supporting actress (Tracie) and set design. They’re both wonderful shows, I just preferred Follies - totally get why you prefer 42nd Street

Lighting Design also covers plays, so something like Network is in prime position to win, the lighting for that was superior than for any musical.

Would be more interested in seeing a different cast (apart from Quast). Love Joanna Riding, but she doesn’t have the voice for this. Joanna Riding has the perfect voice for Sally! She has a far superior range than Imelda Staunton has and would act the hell out of it.

Joanna Riding is more of a Phyllis, surely? Maria Friedman could be a good Sally.

Whatever happened to Imelda doing Gypsy on Broadway this year or next? They wouldn't leave Broadway Gypsy-less longer than a decade would they?! 😂😂

So would Jenna -- she was in the 1987 production as Young Sally and is quietly waiting her turn to play Sally grown up.

Has anyone ever played both the Young and Older versions of the same character (mainly the main foursome, I guess) in 2 separate professional productions before? That'd be cool!

Original Broadway young foursome played the older version of their character for a couple of concerts of the musical at Ann Arbour in 2003. Caroline O'Connor played Young Phyllys in the 1993 London concert with Mary Millar, and grown up Phyllis in the Chicago production of 2012.

If they’re going to recast, it be cool if they brought someone over from Broadway such as; Sherie Renee Scott, Stephanie J Block, Audra McDonald or maybe Victoria Clarke.

I prefer 42nd Street as a musical but would want this to win for cast alone! Let's not forget Di Botcher and the amazing Philip Quast!

Is this really considering a run in West End theatre? High operating costs and the fact bus trips don’t want to see it willl mean it will die very quickly
Although, the production will look so much better in a traditional proscenium arch theatre

I don't think so, the way it's all been phrased suggests it's coming back to the Olivier.

The 'gossip' I heard (largely from 'eavesdropping' on a FB thread granted) before this announcement was that the set as is was difficult to move elsewhere so it was only likely to be an Olivier revival for that reason- I guess unless you're SURE of a really bit return on the outlay making a new set isn't worth the bother....and I'm sure they have to make a financial case for such things/get co-producers to put up the money etc for stuff like that.
So the way I read the situation/announcement currently is 'It's 80% certain to go back in at the NT then maybe if we can find somewhere to put it and we think it'll make some money it'll go elsewhere'

I've seen footage of Caroline O'Connor as Phyllis and she sounded and looked wonderful, as in everything she does, but I don't know why I think of her more of a Sally... Joanna Riding definitely more of a Phyllis... also Josefina Gabrielle as Phyllis would be amazing

This will never transfer. Selling out at the NT is one thing, but it will need a big theatre and will never sell out a 1500-2000 seater. Even if one was available. Unless they got some big names in it.

A limited run at the Chatalet in Paris would work. Although I would prefer them to do their own production, as I’m sure it would be better

I was talking to a friend in the cast and they said logistically, the three theatre's that this show could go in to (exactly as it is now) are: Palladium Collesium Dury Lane Good luck to 'em filling one of those for several months with this show. Is this the same person who thought 'Heisenberg' would work really well in Wyndham's Theatre perchance? It's utter folly I tell you. I think they're losing their minds.
