I wonder if I'm the only one not feeling excited about Imelda playing Sally,... On the other hand I cannot wait to see Janie Dee, her 'Could I Leave you' in Putting it together was brilliant I'm not fussed about Imelda Staunton. I've booked primarily to see Josephine Barstow, as she retired from the opeartic stage before I started operagoing so I haven't seen her live before. Other cast members I'm looking forward to seeing include Janie Dee, Alex Young & Bruce Graham, all of whom I've liked in other shows. [br Barstow is interesting casting isnt she? Agree about Alex Young, she was excellent in Showboat and i thought she stole the show in Carousel😊

Does anyone know why there is no performance between 27/9-15/10?

Does anyone know why there is no performance between 27/9-15/10? Presumably Imelda has some prior commitment? Otherwise it's just an effect of the National playing in rep.

Does anyone know why there is no performance between 27/9-15/10? The final stage rehearsals, previews and opening performances of St George and the Dragon will be then in the Olivier Theatre. After this, Follies and St George and the Dragon will play in rep together.

I have just received the latest NT members magazine. It mentions some Follies statistics: 37 actors, 21 musicians and 93 performances. Presumably this means there will be another 41 performances in the next booking period.

For those who missed out on the first batch of tickets/want more, almost all dates from 7th September onward now have a limited amount of tickets on sale. Nothing below £29 from what I can see and mainly (if not all) in the circle.

The National has put out an open call to find someone to play Young Stella. Looks like 8th January will be the final performance.

Love the bit that says "must be able to sing. " No s**t!! It's a musical! I'm sure most of us have suffered the occasional stunt-cast celebrity who can't sing but is in a musical none the less! Not that the NT should need to resort to that sort of thing.

Considering the ad actually says what role it is for I'm pretty confident it's a singing role. Unless the director is going in a different direction for this production.

Saves awkward misunderstandings later, so what’s the problem?

I know that and you know that but people that don’t know the show might not. Saves awkward misunderstandings later, so what’s the problem? You would hope that someone auditioning for the role would research it in advace and not just turn up on the day and say "oh I never realised I had to sing in it" Anyway my original comment was tongue in cheek in the first place as I thought it was a funny thing to put in an advert. So wasn't really meant to be taken that seriously

Booked last week. Can't wait to see this- never seen a fully staged production of Follies. Went to the RAH thing last year which didn't really do it for me, but sure this new production will!

Managed to get two tickets for this. It's one of Sondheim's shows I don't really know anything about but keen to see Imelda!

Was this the part cast through open auditions? And is that how she was cast? (I realise no one here could actually know the answer to that, just would be interested to know!)

Wasn't Strallen announced a while ago tho? I don't think so. Especially as there seemed to be rumours of Mary Poppins transfering into the West End with her.

I'm sure she was listed in the National Theatre website or something because I knew she was in this and I don't know anyone who could have told me
