There were no monkeys hanging from the grid? That's very odd considering they definitely had this on the original tour, and the reveal doesn't really make sense if there isn't anything to reveal... It must be technical as they’ve always had it. I saw it in Bristol last time but can’t remember not seeing that bit, I’d have probably remembered it being different!? Thats really bizarre! I saw it Thursday afternoon (when Nikki Bentley was code green, she is an absolute joy to watch and listen to) at the Hippodrome and there were definitely monkeys hanging from the grid upstage, I would say around 4-5 monkeys and then 2 on a wire “flying” downstage.

After finding out Charli was on as Glinda yesterday I got myself a last minute ticket for the evening show, then to be surprised with a Nikki Elphaba show as well. I'd said that if either of them ever had a evening show and I had enough notice to get to Bristol I'd go, so to catch them both at the same show was brilliant. It was also my first double standby / standby/cover (whatever you want to call it show). So glad I took the trip to Oz, lovely to see completely different takes on the roles. I loved the fact Charli played a much younger, more naive Glinda and her voice is simply beautiful. If she has anymore Glinda dates whilst they're in Bristol I'm definitely going to try and go. Nikki was a much more angry Elphaba and has far more power behind her voice. For once I came away having absolutely loved No Good Deed, normally I just don't see the big deal with that song. Glad I got the chance to see Nikki and look forward to seeing how she develops over the course of the tour. Thoughts remain the same on the rest of the principle cast, I enjoy their performance but it's nothing standout and memorable (with the exception of Kim's Morrible - that is a wonder to behold). The ensemble were much tighter last night, looks like it was just the hinder of opening night which I'm most glad about. welsh_tenor I feel the performance you saw must of been affected by some sort of technical issue, last night we had the ensemble monkeys on the grid and I'm sure they were there on Wednesday (although sat stalls row aa and being right in front/behind the wizard head I can't be 100% sure). As for the dragon, there was movement of the wings, the eyes lit up and there was smoke on the odd occasion.

I am so very envious of you! I am seeing the tour around 20 times so hopefully I will manage to see both Nikki and Charli, but seeing both at the same show would be a dream! Amy seems to be taking the sensible option of calling out when she knows she's not able to go on, so I imagine I will see Nikki quite a bit (as the majority of my shows are midweek matinees)

It was a dream of a show, especially as neither Nikki nor Charli were scheduled to be on, hopefully you get to see them both at some point. I agree that Amy seems to know whens best to call out which means she's likely to complete the whole tour without damaging her voice and also giving Nikki the chance at quite a few Elphaba shows. I wasn't planning on seeing the tour that much but the way it's going I may end up seeing it more than I've seen the West End show

Interestingly it was also a double standby show in Bristol last night as well as London. Doesn't say much for the leads when the show's been open less than a week and we already have both standbys on! 😂

There are quite a few shows that are having problems with illness at the moment, I wouldn't say it reflects on the leads at all

Pretty sure they'd rather be on stage than led up ill but yes, I do find it quite amusing how it's a double standby in both London and on tour. They don't come around often but when they do they're everywhere by the looks of it 😂

Heaps of people out on the Mamma Mia tour too - it’s just that time of year, combined with the strains of touring. Nothing else.

Also, with regards to the West End production, Sophie is on annual leave so irrelevant in terms of the sickness debate.

It’s no double standby/cover show on tour today. Amy’s back. Charli is still on as Glinda though. My third trip to the tour and my third Gelpie pairing already

Based on what I've heard in recordings, I prefer Nikki Bentley's Elphaba more but Amy's acting and NGD are supposed to be great. Amy is actually getting really good and I hope she doesn't end up vocal damaged like DeeJ.

I love this, hope they do this for every venue! They did one where Elphaba was stood on Edinburgh Castle with the camera crew down on the esplanade. It looked really regal and fabulous. I don't appreciate how they're using Idina's voice over Amy's body though!

They can't use anyone else's, they refuse to do a new cast recording!

I’m pretty much convinced Amy & Helen are my favourite ever pairing, there is just something about these two! Quick updates: * Dragon eyes light up but no smoke or movement. * In the Wizard’s lair there was no ensemble monkey bit with them all hanging off the grid, Chistery/Morrible/Wizard just looked at the back wall! * We had a “look to the western sky” style growl. I believe Ellis’s people are currently onto Ross’s people to discuss breach of trademark! I can confirm usually there is a full monkey reveal with monkeys U/S but there was an issue causing it to be cut for that show. The dragon does smoke and moves at points throughout the show. Much love.... a member of the tour

Is Helen back tonight? Amy called out again last night I've heard but looks like she's back tonight from her twitter. I hope Helen's okay!
