My favourite ever Mrs J was played by Joanna Munro, who understudied the part. She made a terrific Mrs Lyons, but her Mrs J was magnificent. I saw Joanna Monro as Mrs J the first time I saw the show, in London in the mid 90s, understudying Stephanie Lawrence. I remember enjoying her performance, but to be honest, I can't remember too much about it now. Stefan Dennis was Mickey. I think Helen Hobson is the best Mrs J I've seen (most of the others have been Nolan sisters), but I'm keen to see Linzi this year. |

And so the Exodus continues...
After being associated with the show for a good 25 years, Mark Hutchinson is retiring from his role as Edward Lyons. His last show is also on 23rd February 2019 at the Swann in High Wycombe.
Again, I will be very sad to see him go. Mark is kindness personified, and a real gent.
The 23rd is going to be a tough day for many fans.

I saw La Hobson on the UK Tour in about 1997 (very good, and age appropriate).
Saw Sarah Hay (?) at The Phoenix in early 2000.
Then Melanie C in 2009, who I thought was superb (but I am a Spice Girls fan, so maybe a little biased)
Finally saw Lyn Paul on the UK tour about 2 years ago. Obviously completely inhabited the role, but I found the age of her and her 'sons' too distracting.

Malvern was practically sold out all week sat eve was house full so still not got to see Linzi 🙁 may try Blackpool is she still in it then ? Seen BB 55 times over last 20yrs or so though stopped going about 4 years ago as was in my opinion a bit stale (and it is my all time fave show ) Still remember the Phoenix theatre seeing it for the first time not knowing anything about it seeing Stephanie Lawrence take the roof off ably assisted by Joanna Munro Crying buckets at the end and then myself and my Partner leaving silently not being able to speak to each other for a good while walking through a bustling west end then turning to each other wow 😮 what have we just witnessed a rollercoaster of emotions I then saw it at least 3 times every year and then all the tours .... I secretly would love to see a fresh new production that keeps the heart of the show intact My faves have been Stephanie always number one. , Bernie Nolan Linda Nolan Lyn Paul Nicky evens ..... Helen reddy was ok ..... Mel c I really wasn’t a fan Wonder if saint Jane Mac Donald would get five it a go ? Who would you love to play mrs j  ? 😊 |

I still feel for both of them it might not be a permanent departure as both have missed odd legs of the tour in recent years. It will be very sad if they’re both leaving forever though. |

News is now official - from 26th February 2019:
Alex Patmore will play Mickey
Joel Benedict will play Eddie (again)
Paula Tappenden will play Mrs Lyons (again)
Looking forward to seeing Alex' take on Mickey, and seeing Paula and Joel again.

That was one heck of an emotional show at the Wycombe Swan last night!
At the end Bob Tomson (director) came out and paid tribute to Mark Hutchinson and Sean Jones especially, due to their long service with the show, and to Sarah Jane Buckley.
Never seen stage door so busy, not even in Marti Pellow's days as Narrator.

Thank you for posting that. It looked really emotional, more than usual if that’s possible. I love this show and have seen Sean Jones many times. Would have loved to have been there for his last show. He will be missed.

Yes thanks for sharing the video. What a testament to a life's work in one show. As the director said you won't see the like of that again probably in a lead role.29 years for Mark and 19 years for Sean!

This video reminds me. Does anyone know why they all exit the stage and re-enter again so many times in the Blood Brothers curtain call. Always thought it was a little odd

That, and the emotional ending, means it usually gets a lot of applause.... and as "Tell Me It's Not True" is quite slow as bows music, it needs a lot. |

Ahh what a lovely video. I agree with the above posters- I doubt anyone else will reach such a long run in a role and Sean Jones was always the star of the show when I’ve seen it.

That is right, it's not like most shows, where there is a pause after each song to allow for applause. It's continuously going, hence why it is often referred to as the play with songs, rather than a musical. They now once to take their own applause in, then again and acknowledge the band, again and acknowledge tech, and once more for the hell of it. 😉 |

I found “The Hutch” far too old 10 years ago - it was comical. Same with Jones, Dan Taylor and all the others in their 40’s-50’s playing kids for over half the show.
There does a come a time to say goodbye.
