Lesley Joseph has been announced for panto in Bromley this Christmas, which probably isn't much of a shock as she would have done Young Frankenstein for over a year by then. But I wonder if someone else will replace her or is it due to close by then. It's already cut the booking period by a month so I think it's more likely it's closing in August. |

Well I saw it twice and it had a nice run. Nice little funny show. Just shame it lacked the Broadway production values.

A bit sad to see this go, as it didn't beat the length of the Broadway run, but glad to see it's going on tour and having a new recording.

There will no doubt be endless speculation as to who is cast in the tour now. The West End cast will take some matching. I thought all the performances were excellent. It will need some "names" to sell on tour I would think.

Sting was on the telly the other day talking about Last Ship and they're wanting to bring it in to town and actively seeking a venue - 600 odd seat theatre would be about perfect I'd think!

But the audience don’t know that when they purchase their tickets, they just go and buy a ticket for the show they want to see, regardless if it is suited for musicals or plays. The theatre looks glorious from the outside and must have the best footfall in London, also it is adjacent to the TKT’s. So still baffling why so many musicals fail there. Wonder if this will go back to doing plays, or something like Come From Away, Waitress, Dear Evan Hansen or Anastasia will go in there? |

Agree 100% Jon, I know it has it's critics but I love the Garrick as a playhouse they just go and buy a ticket for the show they want to see, regardless if it is suited for musicals or plays They do, though, react strongly to the environment once there. If it doesn't "feel" right, they won't go again - and musicals in particular rely on repeat visits. That's why Mackintosh, ALW etc spend so much time finding the "right" theatre for a show, and I think many of us on here know when we've seen something in the "wrong" venue, for sure. Young Frankenstein got 5 Star reviews, it wouldn’t got these if the show didn’t feel right. The Wyndham and Gielgud are the perfect definition of a Playhouse, yet Avenue Q played there well. The Apollo is another perfect Playhouse, Jamie looks glorious there. I do agree certain musicals play better in a big house and others are more comfortable in a smaller theatre. |

This is true and it’s noticeable when a show moves theatre, Mamma Mia! for example suited the Prince of Wales but lost something when it moved to the Novello. |

The Apollo is another perfect Playhouse, Jamie looks glorious there. The Apollo was built as an opera house, though, which explains that one. Shows either fit or don't fit a theatre, regardless of genre, I think. The Palace Theatre was built to be an opera house, however that is hosting a play now and for the foreseeable future. |

The problem with YF is that it is funny, but it thinks it’s funnier than it is. The cast is sensational but the material is mediocre. Plus i think It looks cheap. It’s not a huge theater and it’s not a small cast so it really needed to rely on full price and premium tickets, and that isn’t the reality for many people and barring Hamilton and Wicked in the first few years, most shows offer some sort of discount or coupon code.
I think the economics of theater make it hard for most shows to have lengthy runs.
