Does anyone know of any cast holidays expect next weeks (specifically Wednesday - I’m gonna finally get round to this one!)

I saw Young Frankstein last month. It was good but not as funny as I expected going on the concept and its praise. Cast were good, including the understudies for Hadley Fraser and Summer Straller that were on. It was a Saturday matinee and the Upper Circle was closed. Dress Circle wasn't full either. I wonder how well it's selling. Will it last to the end of its booking period? I've just noticed they've cut their booking period to the 1st September so I'm guessing they may be closing on that date. |

That's a real shame if it closes in September, though I suppose it's almost a full year so it's not that bad for a new musical these days, and I imagine it will tour.

Does anyone know who the understudy for Hadley Fraser is? I couldn’t even see him on the website and it wasn’t announced on the West End Understudies Twitter account when I saw it on 3rd March.
Whoever he was, I swear I was listening to a young Gene Wilder. His spoken voice was almost identical.

It's not too surprising considering the reports that the Upper Circle has been shut and Dress Circle not being full and it's been discounting which in a 700 seat theatre isn't a good sign. |

Upper was closed tonight. Hadley was absolutely fantastic as was the rest of the cast.

I would have said the same thing - until I saw it. Then I realised that it would probably have more limited appeal than they expected. Seemed to me that if you hadn't seen the movie (at that time, I hadn't) it was too much of an "in" joke to be widely accessible. Put another way, there were at least 10 other musicals and plays at that time which I'd have suggested over this one, if I'm honest. Still is, really. I would agree with this, also I know I am from the era when Mel Brook's golden days were behind him, but his name still meant something. I wonder what his name means to younger theatre goers in general.
I loved it in Newcastle, but then I was in the mood for something utterly silly and juvenile, on that level, this delivered in spades. However, I just cant think of many people in my theatregoing circle who I could recommend it to, because despite the excellent performances, the humour was too broad for anyone who was not already on board.

I went and saw this at the beginning of last month, I'd never seen the movie and as for Mel Brook's well I'd heard his name before but I wouldn't have been able to tell you anything about him or his work. Yes I enjoyed it at the time but I couldn't help feeling I should have been finding it funnier and enjoying it more than I actually was, people around me were in stitches at some lines whilst I was just sat there trying to figure out what part they were laughing at. I'm glad I went to see it for myself but I can't see me ever returning to it, in all honesty it could close tomorrow and I wouldn't miss it. It's not a show I've heard many people talking about returning to either.

I found it very slickly done and very well performed by all the principles who were perhaps trying too hard with the material. It just isn't as funny as The Producers. I enjoyed it but wouldn't necessarily recommend it or repeat visit.

I went because of Ross Noble. It was entertaining enough but it just felt really really dated to me. I’d forgotten quite how basic Mel Brook’s humour can be.

It's a bit weird that Nimax hasn't updated the end date for YF on the main page considering you can only book up to the end of August. Maybe they are waiting for the show to announce closing notices.

Just got out of the evening show after winning the lottery and being in the same seat as last time. It's still alot of fun. Dianne steals it for me still, but I really appreciated Summer and Lesley alot more this time than I did last. Was also great to see Cory, he was alot of fun  Also hd the pleasure of seeing Hadley's understudy Josh Wilmot. I thought he was fabulous! Really good fun, great voice! If you see his name on the cast board, don't be disappointed, he's great! Alot of fun, pretty much full house and standing ovation. Great night! |

That's likely too 😂 The understudy was fabulous though, I thoroughly enjoyed his performance. He did break character once as he started laughing during one scene, but it was hilarious and Summer started laughing too. And Lesley broke twice, as she couldn't get her foot up onto the chair so had to do it again during He Vas My Boyfriend and said "oh sh*t" and did it again, much to the laugher and applause of the audience. And then again during the intro to Puttin' On The Ritz where she obviously usually says "you're too kind", then everyone applauds, then she took a bow and the audience went again into more laughter and she started laughing before cutting back to her serious face. It was hilarious to see. |

Lesley Joseph has been announced for panto in Bromley this Christmas, which probably isn't much of a shock as she would have done Young Frankenstein for over a year by then. But I wonder if someone else will replace her or is it due to close by then.
