A while back when this was first linked to the West End, it was muted to go into a smaller house. Of which the West End has succeeded in and that is taking bloated Broadway musicals and scaling them back, which makes the book and score stand out if it's good, thinking Legally Blonde, Shrek, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and La Cage Aux Folles.

How was Legally Blonde scaled back? It looked pretty much identical to the Broadway version.

So left field, random and unnecessary. I saw the tour and enjoyed it, but there's no need for it to clog a London theatre when there are more exciting (new) projects.

Yeah, but it's the Garrick being clogged, I for one am not going to miss it. Terrible rake, too close to the trains beneath, and difficult to book the precise seat of your choice. I'd rather go to the Garrick than the Apollo, but not by much.  |

I'm excited. I saw this as a found a cheap ticket nothing else on I fancied night in NY and I admit I laughed myself silly. Mel Brooks on film has never 'tickled' me but something about the music added in this and The Producers really got to me.

Might go and see this - I wanted to see it when i was in New York back in 2007, but the cheapest ticket they offered me at the box office as €150 so I told them they could keep it (went and saw Kevin Kline in Cyrano de Bergerac instead for €70)

I lucked out early in the run with restricted view tickets for $50 I think....wouldn't pay $150 for it... |

Wasn't there lots of talk on how the big barns (Palladium, Dominion, etc.) were nearly impossible to fill these days and how producers would love for more smaller theatres to be available? Personally I'm glad when musicals seek out smaller theatres. Will wait for the cast to be announced before I decide if it's worth my time again. |

Just booked this for Newcastle - the run ends the day before the Great North Run which means we are going to be in Newcastle anyway. Seems too good an opportunity to miss.

I'm guessing the Dominic Dromgoole's Classic Spring is heading to the Apollo or Vaudeville |

I would see this even if they cast Warwick Davis as Frankenstein. |

I think producers want midsized theatres like the Adelphi or the Prince Edward, not playhouses like the Garrick. |

Zorro was great at the Garrick, if a bit squashed in. and that's what disappoints me about this, it's obviously going to be a small production

If you think back, the scenes aside from the ones featuring townspeople, really do not have that may people on stage at once. But please do not make a production number of putting on the Ritz like they did in the original production. That was one of the things I really got annoyed with.
