I thought it was ok when I saw it in the cinema but I also caught it on Sky Arts last night it really didn't look or sound good at all. Pretty dreadful in fact. Gerard Butler didn't even looked disfigured, apart from a bit of exposed skull. Plonk a bobble hat on it and there wouldn't have been a problem. I dont look that good on a normal day!  Oh I don't know burly...I've seen your pic and it's not that bad |

(stolen from Nostalgia Chick) I love Nostalgia Chick- she recently did a lengthy video analyzing the film and its weaknesses... surprisingly not focusing on the acting but the direction- and it was quite interesting. She has another video of the different Phantom films throughout the years as well leading to the ALW adaptation- good stuff. |

I liked her! Apparently Miss Schumacker saw her on TV and was very impressed with her, and tried to give Meg as much screentime as possible within the confines of the libretto.

I suppose she was quite good at waddling along with her feet stuck out at right angles in ballet slippers. |

well I've just booked to see this in July as I'm down in London anyway and am intrigued to see Ben's performance. The show is special to me as it was my first West-end experience way back in *cough*1989. Hope it's better than my last experience as it was looking tired, especially during the lake sequence when they didn't use enough dry ice and could see the wheels on the boat

It looked as fresh as ever. It was the performances that were lacklustre. |

I was expecting for the film, they would go the full Freddy Krueger (silly me) so I was more than a little disappointed at the eventual reveal) I was expecting for the film they would go the full anything. Great make-up, great singing, great acting, all the way. For some reason quality is forbidden in musical films. We all know that toning everything down makes it more raw and real (kidding, of course not, it makes it silly). Maybe they thought the same for leaving out the make up. |

This doesn't look like closing any time soon.
I was thinking, why did they continue the performance even after Piangi was found hanged? Surely they'd have shut it down before the phantom would have a chance to bring the chandelier down at curtain call

Maybe they felt they'd gone past the point of no return? Terrible. Back then perhaps people were more resilient. These days a performer being slightly drunk is enough to cancel the show, let alone a corpse hanging from the ceiling. |

As well as that lack of plot logic, I've always wondered what Christine sees in Raoul - he managed to lose her in a locked room, formulates a plan that puts her in mortal danger and when he does come to rescue her he gets instantly caught in a trap! Not such a dashing hero after all....
