Rehearsal pictures for those who like 'em. Layton Williams is a bit of a show off isn't he. Oh look at how flexible I am. Cut and Blow-dry

Layton is amazing, I almost feel he needs a bigger platform than Seaweed after he was such an amazing Angel in Rent. I wonder if he'll be in the running to play Lola in Kinky Boots in due course as he'd look a good fit IMO.
I only discovered yesterday that Gina Murray's dad wrote "My Brother" the very old Terry Scott comedy record. He is of course Mitch Murray who is well known for writing many other big hits in 1960's and 1970's.

There's no denying he is one talented chap, actually saw him both as Angel and as Seaweed on the last tour. He is horribly miscast as Seaweed, where as Angel was a perfect role for him. Like I said, the guy is SO talented but Seaweed is the wrong role for him. He's too young to play Lola but YES I can see him being an incredible Lola, in time.

Layton will get good roles as his career progresses and I agree he is too young to play Lola yet but if Kinky Boots continues to run and tour then he must be in the mix down the line.

Have just booked one of the last remaining seats for the first public performance on the basis that Layton may accidentally split himself in two and so have to withdraw for the rest of the tour..

Wow! I'd happily go again ... every night!
They've avoided any reference to President Trump but this still makes you weep, given the incidents in America last weekend and the subsequent Presidential press statements.

That is good to hear- how was the staging; is it very low rent or looks decent? Brenda Edwards is great; looking forward to seeing this.

I imagine the set will be the same as ever been dating back to the original Curve production. So quite basic yes. But alright.

In our humble Wales Millennium Centre the set design seemed great. Yes, probably achieved on a tight budget, but it keeps the show flowing with lots of scene changes and room for all the dancing. Brenda Edwards got a standing ovation mid-show!

Went down last night and really enjoyed! Something happened at last nights show, and we were wondering if anyone knew if it's a planned part of the production or a genuine blooper. When Tracy is left behind in jail, Wilbur and Edna discuss how they can help her. (Just before "You're Timeless to Me") Wilbur reveals he has a big plan. He pushes down on a can, and in the past silly string or confetti or something bursts out and Edna says something like "how does that help?". Instead last night, he pushed down on the can and nothing happened. We were genuinely confused about whether it happened intentionally or not. Really enjoyed the evening! The cast was so much better than the last group we saw in Hairspray a few years ago. Can't praise Brenda Edwards highly enough as Motormouth, or Rebecca Mendoza who was great as Tracy! Norman Pace and Matt Rixon were a blast as Wilbur and Edna, and had great chemistry considering the tour is only a week young. Also, really want to give a shoutout to Gina Murray. The actress playing Velma will never get the same buzz as some of the other roles, but more than anyone else, I thought she was absolutely perfect in her role. Really nailed it!

Has the set changed? The Curve Prodiction and then the last tour had the same set...but i just noticed a pic on twitter of someone on stage at some press day or other and noticed it looks rather different and then just gone on the website and checked the creatives and the set designer isn't the same (was Paul Moore now Takis). It's odd if they have gone to the expense of giving it a different set, but will be interesting to see none the less.

And some of the venues on the new tour have much larger stages than the old tour, (I think but don't quote me...) The costumes on the old tour website look different from the new tour ones. How exciting for you!

If the set has changed, I'll book and go see this - if it's the same set as the last tour I'll save my money...that's how much I disliked the Curve design

How exciting for you! Odd in that producers don't usually like to spend money where they don't have to. Also, don't take that sarcastic tone with me. If i was a more power gone to my head type mod i might slap a warning on you just for that, so you are lucky given you don't have enough wriggle room left for that

Going to the 5 o'clock show this evening, according to my friend the set is even more cut back than the last tour? I'm struggling to understand how that's even possible! I don't really care about the set to be honest though, I'm going for that fantastic score.

I caught this in Dartford the other night and Hairspray is in my top 3 musicals of all time with Billy Elliot and Les Miserables, I adore how this musical highlights a serious subject, but yet conveys it in such a fun way. However how much I love this musical, I didn't adore this interpretation and found the use of projections misguided and took away from the grittiness of the piece. Several roles were questionable also.
For me the West End production was a great musical of a very simple show and should have been simple to replicate, all it needs is a decent Finale Hairspray Can (this one did), Wilbur's joke shop (this should be simple), Tracey's Bed for the beginning for 'Good Morning Baltimore' and the red velvet front curtain (which most/all theatres have as a house curtain) and a spotlight for the great 'Timeless to Me', yet again a simple scene was killed by the projector.
However as always with Hairspray with all the productions I have seen, the audience roared their approval at the end and me leaving the theatre humming 'You Cannot Stop The Beat'.
3/5 stars.

Just caught this at the Opera House in Blackpool. Full stalls and pretty much full Circle.
I had honestly forgotten how good the music in this show is. Thoroughly enjoyed myself this evening. Wonderful, energetic cast.
Would happily see it again and again and again.

Caught this last night, the understudy for Tracy (Rosie O'Hare) was truly fantastic. Not a complaint about the whole show, the audience were cheering after every song and there was a very enthusiastic standing ovation. Really reccomend seeing this if you can!
