Kerry Ellis would be insane as Velma! Or Hilary O'Neil would be good. Evelyn Hoskins would be great as Penny. Fleur East could be good as Motormouth Maybelle. Scott Paige needs to be Edna someday. Kerry Ellis would be doing Wonderland so she probably wouldn't be able to do it. Also, I think the producers would want a name for Edna and Velma at least. I absolutely love Fleur East but she's quite big at the moment so I couldn't really see her doing it but I would love to! I think Mica Paris would do it as she did the tour of Love Me Tender and got great reviews! |

Saw him in Annie Get Your Gun where he got entrance applause but a much more muted reception at the curtain call. That captured his performance in a nutshell. His sing off with Emma Williams was a particular low point but his performance as a whole was just very flat. As for Hairspray in general, the first time I watched the show on the original UK tour, about fifteen minutes in I was thinking it really wasn't for me and that leaving at the interval was a distinct possibility. However, I gradually warmed to the show from there and ended up really enjoying it. Providing they don't cast Jason D this time around, I'll look forward to catching this production next year! |

Yeah I really enjoy the show - it's a really fun filled show. The characters are great too (like Velma is a great character).
I know people complain about celebrity casting but I must admit I like it. I think for a role like Velma, a celebrity is good. Even somebody from like Michelle Collins, Zoe Lucker etc (I do like this actresses anyway) would be good if they have the acting and comedy skills. I think singing for Velma doesn't need to be exceptional as she only really has one main song and that doesn't need a set of pipes on her. However, a role like Maybelle needs an exceptional singer to sing that song "I know where I've been".

Hopefully this goes to Belfast, I didn't manage to catch the last national tour and the curve production looks vastly different but I'd still like to cross Hairspray of my list.

If Mica Paris didn't do Maybelle, if anybody has been watching the X Factor then you're see that a contestant called Relley C got, wrongly, voted off tonight but I think she'd be an amazing Maybelle in the tour next year. I can also see her being a good Deena in Dreamgirls or even a Rachel in The Bodyguard

I'm not convinced either. She sounds fine but not extraordinary, and I Know Where I've Been is such a big number, which requires great acting too.
Being able to sing a song is different than being able to perform one in a musical.
Plus isn't she about young for the role? Don't remember if Maybelle's age is ever specified in the show but isn't she normally played by an older lady?

Fair enough guys and I do honestly get where you're coming from. Maybelle has two huge songs in the show and the actress needs the chops to sing them. I feel like she could sing the songs (like above) but then again I am just annoyed as she was my favourite in X factor and I think it's a fix that she has gone home compared to other contestants....  |

I'm thinking of giving up watching it.... I think it is very fixed. What annoys me is that that lady went last night and there are so many worse people in the show (like a rapping middle aged woman for example) so that really annoys me that so won't even be on the tour when she deserves to be. Anyway rant over! Hopefully she'll do stuff in the future, half the time I quite like the pepeople from talent shows who go into musicals.... Brenda Edwards was amazing in Hairspray! |

I could definitely see her starring in The Bodyguard though. If you ask me, Ryan shouldn't have even made the live shows, he's awful. I am convinced Honey G is David Cameron in a wig.
