As much as I love Lucas and love watching him perform, I don't think he would ever do a production that's so cheap. He said himself he's being very picky about jobs. He is hardly Judi Dench

As much as I love Lucas and love watching him perform, I don't think he would ever do a production that's so cheap. He said himself he's being very picky about jobs. The fact that Racky is directing it is probably a big part of the reason he is doing it and the fact that it will be quite a different take on the part to previous people in the role. It's going to be confirmed imminently. How do you know he's doing it?

Watching this at the Liverpool Empire now... How can such an incredible show what I saw on Broadway end up as a low key cheap and tacky touring show with DREADFUL lead actors such as Michelle Collins in the role. It's beyond terrible...

Interesting choice. Maybe it'll work. Hopefully it will be an improvement on Michelle Collins

I wanted to see this in York yesterday but as usual hadn't pre-booked. (I don't like to commit myself too soon, I wait to see what else is on nearby to decide what I best like the sound of.) There were hardly any seats left, and what there was was either extortionately expensive or really cheap and behind a pillar. So I passed. Will try again for Newcastle, they appear to be better priced.

Director Andrew Keates (of leading the Printroom protests fame) was having a couple of heated twitter discussions last night about the characters Mrs Meers ....
(I'll be honest I don't know 'Millie' at all so I don't know whether there is a racist element to the character, though on my observations from that discussion it does seem potentially there is)

The website that shall not speak it's name?
Thanks, interesting stuff...Millie is a "classic" that has entirely passed me by in life so the first I was hearing of it was Keates' debate on Twitter/Facebook last night...

The Mrs. Meers story line was dubious in the movie and remains so in the musical but it is the basis of the plot and can't be discarded. There is a kind of redemption in the end which helps but does not eliminate the problem.

I am afraid I could only stand half of this. Nearly full house but hardly a laugh. Just not good enough for 46 pounds. Cheap set. Ok dancers but no one can put over a line. Ugh.
