Was there not that show with Cliff Richard? Was it called Heathcliff? Of Wathering Heights fame?
It was before my time here in London but I have seen the poster/image for it somewhere

Now I know nothing about it but didn't Ian Dury do a show called Apples? 1989 at the Royal Court! He starred in it along with Frances Ruffelle. I have the soundtrack, it's... odd. |

There was a musical called 'Time' which was on at the Dominion. He was in that. Time - The Musical should actually be included in this list because it was written by Dave Clark, who not only had solo songs but was more famous for the Dave Clark Five, a band that was huge in the 60's. Time also included songs that were big hits for Cliff Richard and Freddie Mercury. |

ABBA - Chess (and Mamma Mia) NOFX - Home Street Home (admittedly, that's rather obscure, but I love it) Cyndi Lauper - Kinky Boots Tori Amos - The Light Princess Phil Collins - Tarzan Don't forget ABBA wrote a 'mini musical' called The Girl With The Golden Hair. There were three songs; Departure (I Wonder, Thank You For The Music and I'm A Marionette. Incidentally, The Girl With The Golden Hair is a line from the song Thank You For The Music. |

There were three songs; Departure (I Wonder, Thank You For The Music and I'm A Marionette. Incidentally, The Girl With The Golden Hair is a line from the song Thank You For The Music. Technically speaking, ABBA performed it, but Benny and Bjorn wrote it. It also contained another song, Get On The Carousel, but this wasn't included on their studio album with the others. (Incredible to think that Thank You For The Music was only deemed worthy of a B side in 1978. It was only in 1983 that it was finally released as a single in its own right to promote a compilation album.) Love that line, "But who the hell am I if I don't even try..." from I Wonder. Such a beautiful song, and yes, it definitely sounds like a song on its way to Chess. Incidentally, ABBA's music had been featured in another musical before Mamma Mia. Abracadabra was staged at the Lyric Hammersmith in 1983 with Elaine Paige, Jenna Russell and Michael Praed among others. Don't know anything more about it but a couple of songs feature on the Hey Mr Producer studio CD. Like An Image Passing By is gorgeous... (Or was it Abbacadadra? Did anyone here see it?) |

Look, I'm just gonna come out and say it. I LOVE ABBA! Always have, even as a little child, and I guess I always will. I actually remember them fly the the (56 hours I believe) all the way from Sweden to Australia; cue ABBA The Movie (incidentally, Robert Hughes, the actor who played the reporter desperate for an interview with them has recently been arrested on child molestation charges- but that's another story all together) but I digress. The night they performed an open air concert in The Domain in Sydney the heaven's opened and it just poured (something seen in the ABBA movie) and Anni-Fryd slipped over and I have distinct memories of being at my grandparents and seeing this image on the front page with that headline, but alas (sigh) despite being a fan even then, I was too young to go. I was only about 5 or 6. Thank you calaphas for that information on the song Get On the Carousel. I was not aware of this and will definitely try and find it. iTunes? I have been to Stockholm, but that was many years ago, before the museum opened. The actual helicopter? I'm thinking (maybe) I should go? Ryan, I could have guessed you'd be Agnetha. Lol! |
