The Dorfman will close after the currently announced shows
From November 2024
And not reopen until Summer 2025
The Olivier already has the return of Dear England for spring running until May
It’s just the Lyttleton missing programming for early 2025
There is a one month gap between Ballet Shoes and Dear England
I doubt more than 2 productions are to be announced for early 2025

I was really hoping Rachel Bay Jones would transfer, she's so brilliant on the recording and by most accounts gave probably the best performance of an apparently already superlative cast. I could easily see Krakowski as Claudia (Amber Gray's role) as well but that's probably too small for her. I do love Krakowski though and I'm sure she'll be good (the role seems pretty similar to hers in She Loves Me which she was great in).

All 3 are closing at the NT, though for different lengths of time; Dorfman for 6-months-ish. Lyttleton a month, I think (sort that bloody revolve once and for all). All sorts in the public areas inc. new carpets (thank God).
Grade 1 listed in and out. Not cheap, Gov funded.

I have to ask why is the National doing this show?
I totally get Stephen Sondheim and agree he is an ingenious. But shouldn't quality be the arbiter of what shows go into the National, not because they've got their hands on a mediocre piece of work by the most famous composer in musical history?

Reading the synopsis the whole thing sounds absolutely terrible.
Also, Tracie Bennett..how does she keep getting these gigs? I mean, Mame at the Hope Mill, great. Follies at the NT… ok, I could get into it I suppose. But she’s very specific appeal-wise isn’t she? It really puzzles me.

I adored TB in this. The comedy suited her style so well it was almost as if it was written for her. I am currently addicted to the below song
I suspect the show will divide us, I loved two thirds of it. It great until you get to the point uncle steve put down his pen. Perhaps Ives will amend the book? I hope he does.
I would say Here we are is Anyone can whistle's mature sibling.

It’s not his best, but this show is FAR from mediocre. Especially given this is (rumoured to be) the full NY production. It was lavish, it was visually creative, and the first act is rich in Sondheim unique wordplay and wit. If we’re claiming lack of quality, this is a hundred times better than the underprepared “The Witches” that the National put on recently. IMO The National is a perfect fit because it’s a space that can afford to put on more experimental work and this show wouldn’t suit a more traditional commercial venue.
