For anyone interested, this is on sale for £15 tickets on TodayTix for today only. They still have the original run on there which isn't happening but if you wanted to catch this before next week it's a pretty good deal.

Can’t say an early closing surprises me. This was honestly one of the worst things I’ve sat through in quite a while. I would watch “Opening Night” twenty times before having to endure this one again.

Saw this coming from a mile away, but it's really sad to see. I personally loved this show and rank it as one of Wildhorn's best. But I don't think it was ever going to thrive in the West End.

Always sad when something shuts early but this was a very strange choice for a full summer run at the Harold Pinter with no well known names to sell it.

There's now a 7 week gap in the theatre's schedule. Can they get anything to slot in quickly?

Yea the transfer had been a very bizarre decision from the start.

Maybe they were hoping to ride on the coat tails of Totoro and Spirited Away, especially with many anime fans travelling to London for the latter, but then why not Death Note, which has far better known source material and had at least a bit of a buzz going after the concerts last year?

1) it's really odd because when I saw it a few weeks ago, they had the 'House Full' sign up outside, despite the fact the house clearly wasn't full

2) of all of Wildhorn's musicals, this was such a weird choice. Where is the appeal? I think depending on the Death Note hype was stupid because the music if Death Note is genuinely spectacular. Where is the appeal here? Even something like Dracula (sooo underrated!) would have been a more wise choice as it would have got people in based on name recognition alone. Is this even that big of an anime? I mentioned I saw it at the Manga Club in the school I work at (I've never read a manga or watched anime in my LIFE!), and they had all heard of Death Note, but none of them had heard of this. 

I just hope to doesn't put Wildhorn off. He has some great stuff in his back catalogue. Just needs to take it slow. Something like Dracula would actually work so well somewhere like the Art Theatre.

I am very sad, as an out of towner and anime/manga fan I was looking forward to my September date for this one. I hadn't seen the anime because I keep putting it off, but I know this would entice me into finally doing it. Very sad for the cast and crew!

(How good are ATG generally at getting in touch for refunds?)

Foreign investors who didn't care how much money they lost, and ATG insisting on a longer run. It was never going to end well.

6-7 weeks isn't really enough time for a filler at this short notice, Ghost won't transfer because it's very expensive to slot something in for just a week in the West End.

Give Macbeth is sold out, ATG will probably just leave the Pinter dark until October.

Well, that’s a shame. Especially as I had only booked a ticket for late August this morning.

I thought this looked decent from the West End Live performance. Two weeks is too short notice for me to be able to exchange tickets for another date now so guess this will have to go down as one that wasn’t meant to be for me.

I feel sorry for the director. It has not been his year. But honestly, the minute this was announced I thought it was very unlikely to manage to complete a 12 week run. Why something more commercial didn't go into the Pinter for a prime summer slot, I'll never know. The most bizarre West End transfer in years.

That’s such a shame. This would always be a tough sell. I only saw the concert as it was available through a site we cannot name, but that got me interested enough to attend again. I’ve quickly booked for the closing performance and I’ll see if I can fit in any more viewings before then.

Am I remembering correctly that the programme mentioned something about it being part of a series of anime/manga adaptations?

Wildhorn has written multiple adaptations of manga. His work before this one was a musical based off of the manga "Fist of the North Star." Look it up, it's pretty odd material to adapt..!

These musicals are really profitable in Japan so I reckon he's making a fair amount with these adaptations, whether or not they get English premieres. He seems to personally enjoy it as his son is an anime fan and encourages him to write these musicals... so props to him I guess. Anything to keep the money rolling in

Ah, I was thinking it meant he was writing them for a western audience.

I remember seeing some of the ridiculously violent Fist of the North Star on the Sci Fi Channel back in the 90s. Of all the things to turn into a musical…🤯
