Good choice of theatre. Right opposite the Japan Centre, and next to an incredibly popular Japanese restaurant. Mmhm! I always swing by there on theatre days to pick up Kewpie mayonnaise (seriously... you should try it..!) Any chance we'll be seeing rush tickets? This show could really appeal to a younger generation of theatregoers with cheap tix.

I think this probably has more cross over appeal being a romance than Death note. Opening in summer at the peak of tourist season will help it too. Asian tv and film are very popular on streaming too so that could also carry over into theatre. Not saying it'll be a guaranteed sell out but it's not a headscratcher of an idea either. Not to mention it's a limited run so should do decently. Have to admit, I've never heard of Your Lie in April and I'm fairly familiar with Manga and Anime.

booked for last preview. Seems silly not to at the £25.00 price for great stalls!

Mods, this is fully staged so you might want to remove the concert reference in the heading.

Booked two usually premium seats for this. £25 bargain. This was an excellent concert. brilliantly staged and I can’t wait to see what they do with a full production. I disagree that it doesn’t have name recognition - I’m definitely not in the demographic and I’d heard of it. I loved it and hope it gets the audience it deserves and hopefully the price point encourages a whole new generation in. Hoping for more cherry blossom action in the new one. I don’t know how to add a spoiler tag (so won’t say too much) but I hope they add in the iconic ending. They didn’t in the concert and it really needed it. Liked the concert Kaori but wouldn’t it be thrilling if they could cast someone who could play violin. The piano parts played live were brilliant.

LOVED the Drury lane production and agreed that it is a perfect title of all the anime’s to bring to stage. It is one of the most emotional stories surrounded by classical music. Got tickets again for opening night 😍

Is this the first time the Pinter is going to house a musical? It’s usually the go-to theatre for star castings/mainly screen actors doing theatre for a limited run. So nice to see a bit of change.
If Stereophonic will transfer to the West End next year after their Broadway run, they can probably be staged at the Pinter.

The Watermills “Sunset Boulevard”, Merrily We Roll Along from the Chocolate Factory, Sunny Afternoon, and the ill fated “Too Close to the Sun”

Not to mention the original production of The Rocky Horror Show which transferred from the Kings Road Theatre in 1979.

The original London production Little Shop of Horrors was also at the Harold Pinter.

If they don't usually do musicals there, I wonder if they will have the band on stage as it worked really well for the concert version. Also really hope the leading man plays the piano live again!

Booked to see this in August. I'm in London on a Sunday and needed something to see in the afternoon. I picked this despite knowing little about it.
Does anyone who has read the manga, knows the story or has seen the concert recommend I familiarise myself with the story of this first?

Does anyone who has read the manga, knows the story or has seen the concert recommend I familiarise myself with the story of this first? It’s very easy to follow. I suspect it’s shortened/simplified from the source material. No need to prepare.

I hadn't read the manga before hand but it still made me ball my eyes out and found it easy to follow...certainly easier to follow than Death Note which felt like it maybe needed more.....explaining before hand? Doesn't hurt that the music is also gorgeous!

Is this an overly sentimental with over the top performances kinda show?
The title intrigues me, but I can't stand shows that force emotions on audiences in a simplistic and basic manner.

I didn't get this feeling when I saw the concert. Was really sincerely done the emotion was just one part of what made it great

The source material is so good. I can’t help but wish it had a better director and creative team attached. The team feel a little B grade.

Perhaps I was just referring to the lead creatives. I just don't know what 65 year old mediocre Frank Wildhorn can bring to this project apart from most likely a pretty dull score. It feels like he’s still writing scores for the 90s. Where in Nick Winston’s work has he used the expressionism and visual lyricism required to bring this material to the stage before? It feels like the producers are wasting a strong IP on weak artists. Death Note will be even worse.

Anyone know if the new Kaori - Mia Kobayashi can play violin? After Zheng Xi’s brilliant piano the previous Kaori miming violin was the only thing lacking in a great concert. Be amazing if Mia could match the musicianship there.

Be amazing if Mia could match the musicianship there. Think it’s same format as the concert looking at rehearsal photos! Worked beautifully at Drury Lane. Cant wait to see how Mia takes to the role following Rumi Sutton
