Judging by the timing of last year's announcement, we are about 1 month away from an official announcement.
In the meantime, have you heard anything about what may be in the season? Or any guesses/rumours?
I anticipate La Traviata will be in the first period as it's 30 years since the production was new. Obviously Die Walkure will continue the Ring Cycle, but it will be interesting to see who will be Brunnhilde, Siegmund and Sieglinde especially. I also feel Les Contes D'Hoffmann will make an appearance in a new production.

On the Royal Ballet side, the only production that seems to be confirmed is Wayne McGregor's new(ish) piece Maddaddam, which has already been done by the National Ballet of Canada. Going by the reviews, and my dislike of everything else I've seen by McGregor, I'll be very happily avoiding seeing it. Based on the usual patterns of revivals in recent seasons, I'd take a guess that Romeo & Juliet, Sleeping Beauty & Cinderella are all possibilities.

I’m not a ballet expert at all, but surely it’s time for a revival of La Fille mal Gardee 🐓

People have been saying that for several years & thus far it's not materialised. As BRB are doing it next season, including 3 performances at Sadler's Wells, that might indicate the RB still won't be. At least I'll finally get to see it. As the RB last did it in 2016 & I first saw them live in 2018 I've been waiting to see it for some time.

I loathe Wayne McGregor's work. So cold and isolating. On the other hand Ashton is very twee ...

I have to say it’s been a long time since Parsifal was performed, but highly unlikely I’d say for this season ☹️

I think I read somewhere that there is going to be a new production of TOSCA this coming season, with Freddie De Tommaso. I think maybe Lise Davidsen may be Tosca.
I expect there will be some Handel, as there is something every year. I would love to see TAMERLANO, maybe with Michael Spyres.
If they do HOFFMANN, can we please have Benjamin Bernheim as the title character?
As long as the season is cast with good singers, I am not overly bothered what the operas themselves are.

The current production of Tosca is one of the few period-appropriate productions that the ROH still has left so I really hope it's not going to be replaced. It's the productions that I'm bothered about.

A new Tosca production would be amazing, provided it is period. I’ve always hated the current one.
Would love to see Bernheim as Hoffman.
Oh yes, a Handel opera would be good. Maybe a time for Joyce DiDonato to return?
Speaking of returning, Cecilia Bartoli would be amazing. It’s only been about 18 years since she was last there.

Parsifal is by some way the No 1 on my desire list. I feel I will have to be patient, because I can't see it happening until after the new Ring is fully in place?
Tosca was in this season, surely a break before a new production?
Surprise from left field would be La Ciociara. Revised and given at last years Wexford Festival. Should be better known.

I agree, Parsifal won’t be done until at least 2027?! Oh there’s lots of left field wishes…I think it will be a conservative season to try and save money.

I remember reading in Opera that a new Turandot is planned for the ROH.
2024 is the 100 year anniversary Puccini's death, so maybe we'll get it then?

I'd like them to bring back the Enescu Oedipe, which I didn't see first time round (2016) - it would mean a nice trio of Oedipuses next year. It's probably too soon to see the John Adams Antony and Cleopatra which I think will be at the Met next year. I'd like to see Barrie Kosky direct something again.

This is not very interesting, but ROH gave me the dates for Maddaddam as 14th-30th November. I'm surprised it's not a longer run as they're bigging it up a lot and it's only March.

That's about the same length of run as the revival of The Dante Project this season. I'm pretty sure that didn't get near to selling out so I doubt they could sell a long run of Maddaddam.

The Salzburg La GIOCONDA is a shared ROH production...tho it may not be in the 2024-25 season...but a future one. Pappano is the conductor with Netrebko and Kaufmann.

And both those productions are directed by Oliver Mears so they should be along soon...

HOFFMANN is definitely happening in the 2024/25 season. I’ve just watched an Insight on YouTube about the new CARMEN production (that I have tickets for), and it was confirmed by the conductor. The production will be by Damiano Michieletto (director of the Olivier Award winning CAV & PAG, as well as this new Carmen). Now just need to have Benjamin Bernheim in the title role (as I’ve already said above). He’s sung/singing it everywhere else, so why not at the ROH!

Hoffmann will be the Michieletto production currently in Sydney opera.org.au/productions/the-tales-of-hoffmann-sydney/ ROH still owe us a run of Tristans that were cancelled in 2020, maybe in Spring 25 to balance Walküre?

Still no announcement. Hope it's this week. Impatiently waiting...
Also, I'm a little confused by the membership benefits. Will the priority booking dates be updated when the 2024/2025 season is announced? Right now, the 'Friend' level is showing priority booking for the summer season from 6th March. Sorry if this is a silly question. I'm just not sure how this works for upcoming seasons and still deciding whether to become a member or not.

Will the priority booking dates be updated when the 2024/2025 season is announced? Of course. Right now, the 'Friend' level is showing priority booking for the summer season from 6th March. Priority booking for summer ended on 26 March. Public booking opened the next day. The whole 24-25 season will be announced soon and will inc all priority booking dates for each period. It's good that the ROH doesn't demand money a year in advance which is happening now in the west end. and still deciding whether to become a member or not. It's largely philanthropic (feel good) but gives access to dress rehearsals (the nearest opera gets to a preview in the theatre) and events. There's no Domingo or Pavarotti anymore so it's not so hard to get tickets. It's surely easier to get stalls standing if you are a friend, but there's a lot of competition from people experienced at whizzing round the site when they go on sale. You need to know exactly what you want and if they're not available, good alternatives. I now go off-topic a bit. The cheapest best "seats" in the house I reckon are D32/3 balcony standing. I say this now as I'll never go for them again. It's a dazzling full-on position for ballet in partic. Beautiful perspective and distance from the stage to take in everything or focus on what you like. In this way a live performance bears no relation to a video recording of the same thing where some director imposes his inflexible will and chops around irritatingly, inevitably missing lots you'll never know or see. You get the depth and patterns from above which are obv much flatter from the stalls/stalls circle. No big heads in front of you which is a risk in the stalls where the rake isn't great. Clear air above you, unlike in the stalls circle which is a bit claustrophobic. The legroom is so good, if you can cope. No stage cut off whatsoever which you get moving round to D23 or C64-7 etc on the other side. Not all tickets are released during priority booking periods: it's a condition of receiving ACE funding (no matter how inadequate that has become) that some have to be retained for public booking dates. You'll gradually learn if you need to be a friend to get what you want, and have the money.
