Hit musical The Addams Family is set to come to the West End for two nights only!
The piece is set to star Michelle Visage (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie) as Morticia Addams and Ramin Karimloo (Funny Girl) as Gomez Addams. Lesley Joseph (Sister Act) will play the role of Grandma, while further casting is to be announced.
Following the much-adored dysfunctional family who love all things melancholy, monochrome and menacing, the piece’s book is by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, with music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa, based on the characters created by Charles Addams. The musical has played two UK and Ireland tours since first appearing on these shores.
The show will be directed by Matthew White, with choreography by Alistair David, production design by Diego Pitarch, orchestrations by Richard Beadle, lighting design by Ben Cracknell, sound design by Richard Brooker and casting by Jane Deitch.
It is set to play at The London Palladium on 12 and 13 February 2024, with tickets on sale now.

Caught my interest, looked at the prices... closed the tab. Will be heavily discounted a week or two before. I usually pay around £25-£40 and always get a good to excellent seat for anything I’ve actually wanted to see, usually a week or two before. This, of course, isn’t one I want to see. I just avoid them completely now due to the consistently terrible sound/bad casting/poor value when a show sells quickly - which is rare (Bonnie & Clyde, Death Note). I find these shows are always underhearsed cash grabs, with Evita at Drury Lane being my most recent disappointment. In fact, that was the final straw for me after so many let downs.

As I said on Side Show - these producers cant afford to mount a full production so we get a concert.
That said, this is Katy Lipson who DID mount the last tour which closed early so...this is probably not a good idea.
Might pick up a £15 stalls the week of when it discounts

Visage and Ramin are interesting casting. Leslie Joseph cannot sing, but I can’t remember whether the granny has any numbers. I’ve blanked it!

It just shows you how broken the business is.

My response was likely slightly in frustration as I was just chatting to a colleague about how hard it is to get a commercial production up and into a proper run in the West End. The constant announcements of concerts suggests this is the best way to get stuff seen but just seems like a stop gap.

Hasn’t this one been seen plenty over the last few years though? It’s done two national tours. More than enough for something as decidedly average as this.

Yeah and the concert version doesn't do the show any favour, since the score is hardly is hardly a gem. Plus Karimloo is not exactly known for his comedy skills.

Suppose it's meant to be all about getting Michelle Visage into that role... other than that, it all feels distinctly odd. As I made clear that other day, I'm really not a fan of these 'in concert' events but this isn't even a rare gem. It's literally been seen in every corner of the UK, including London, in recent years, in a full production. Why they think there's any need for a concert version just to get Michelle Visage onstage feels totally miscalculated. And those ticket prices? No thanks. Not a chance.

I love how people seem to think concerts are a death of the West End. It's two days at the Palladium!

Although that's not exactly a harsh criticism, the show does have a novelty factor about it In terms of the stage show (not the concert) I do wonder how significantly different this is to what was seen on Broadway? Cause in Bebe Neworth and Nathan Lane, you had some pretty big Broadway names!

I enjoyed the last tour, it was fun, but I wouldn't say it is an amazing show - definitely not worth £129 for a 'concert version'.

Bought tickets - I love The Addams family!
Personally, I don't mind these concerts. They aren't in lieu of a proper run, but because they cannot get the backing for a proper run. I do think that Addams Family is an interesting choice though, given that the last tour had to close early due to poor ticket sales.

Michelle Visage will bring a lot of her audience in I imagine. It will all be promoted and played very campy and that will appeal to the Yaaass Yaaaas Slaaaay Queeen crowd. 🙄

The constant announcements of concerts suggests this is the best way to get stuff seen but just seems like a stop gap. Yeah I get the frustration if it’s something you don’t wanna see. But like I said on the Side Show thread, all the full productions ARE there. These concerts are in addition. There isn’t a single usual musical house that’s dark. We have as many full productions as usual. Maybe people (myself included) don’t think a lot of some of the full productions we have, and might like different ones - but that’s a different conversation!
