I must have seen the original Palladium show upwards of 10 times back in the day, I absolutely fell in love with the show and Patina Miller! Have never bothered to check out any of the subsequent tours, and by the sounds of the changes I don't feel too tempted to see this. I saw it loads of times in London, too. The new song instead of How I Got The Calling doesn’t work as well. Some things are tighter, some less. Cynthia Erivo was fab in the role. Beverley Knight is good if you like her style of singing. I saw it at the Eventim Apollo a year and a half ago and it got a bit lost on that stage. I wonder if the Dominion is better. I’d love to see it in a smaller house. Do the nuns have more costumes changes this time? I really missed that from the Palladium/first UK Tour. I doubt they have. But in my opinion I don’t think it’s a huge loss. I did think the costume changes were brilliant but I think it still works without them. I definitely think it’s hilarious in the ending when the nuns go from their basic black habits to rainbow sequin habits (although I do understand people thinking that they go a bit too far with that part, especially because they’re so bright when you see the show). |

I’m probably coming from a different perspective though because this production was the first production of Sister Act I’ve seen. |

What are the main script changes since the Palladium days? I've seen it 10 times so you'd think I'd remember, but I'm getting old 🤣 I know "Sweaty Eddie" changed to "Steady Eddie", and Mary Robert's origin being lost when "How I Got The Calling" got replaced, but has much else changed?
I agree it's still fab entertainment, Beverley and Ruth were on top form, and the audience loved it. Also, Deloris now has her own Glinda-bubble! That was fabulous 😁

Agree. Their relationship really blossomed in the second act originally so that when Mother Superior steps in front of her in the Sister Act reprise it actually means something - here it just feels so weird because the comedy MS we have in this new version has no character development at all.

I am so, so frustrated. My seat was so awful I ended up leaving in the interval.
I even found the manager who said she couldn't move me because so many others were trying to too and the show was full.
I've never, ever had such a bad view. The man in front was directly in front of me, and even leaning to one side I could only just see a tiny bit of the stage, no rake or seats aligned so everyone can see.

I never saw the production in the Palladium but I did see videos on YouTube. I think it’s with me being so familiar with I Haven’t Got A Prayer I just don’t really connect that much with the reprise. |

I remember loving the original London production. I can't point out everything that is different about the new production but overall it felt like a different show.
I have mentioned this before but it still annoys me; in this production in raise your voice, both Lizzie Bea and Eloise Runnette sing a note that sounds horrible, in my opinion. It isn't the "Tu Solus Dominus! Tu Solus Altissimus! Iesu Christe In Gloria Dei Patris" part, both ladies sang that beautifully. However, shortly after this, Sister Mary Robert sings "Raise it UPPPPPPPPPPPPP" and the way both Lizzie and Eloise sing it sounds quite harsh and doesn't sound anything like the way Katie Rowley Jones or any of the Broadway/US tours actresses sang it. At first I thought it might have just been Lizzie but Eloise sings it the exact same way, so it's possible it might not have been their decision.
I know it is a very small complaint but it really doesn't sound as good as how it was done originally.

When the person in front blocks most of the stage, it should be sold as restricted view! But it even happens in premium seats, in theatres where the rake and seat staggering is poor. It’s why I always go for front row, where possible. |

I saw her twice as Mary Lazarus and she was brilliant and so funny (met her as well at the stage door and she was so lovely). Is Lesley actually listed in the understudies list? I would’ve thought it would be strange having one of the big stars listed in the understudy list. |

I’m taking that Lori is down as first cover and Caroline Bateson as the second (judging by the understudy list in previous programmes). Is there understudies listed for Mary Martin, Mary Theresa, Michelle and Tina? I’m asking because the tour brochure didn’t have any for Mary Martin and Mary Theresa but there was for Michelle and Tina. |

I only included Lesley in the understudy list because she's listed as Alternate Superior (having seen Ruth, I can't imagine Lesley in the role). Caroline is not listed as a Mother Superior understudy (she was Mary Patrick this afternoon, excellent).
There are understudies listed for all roles, but I was in my seat waiting for Choir of Man to start when I typed out the list, so didn't have time to do any more.

Sorry if it does seem if I’m being nosey. I was just a bit confused whether Lesley was credited in the list, because I did know that she was the alternative Mother Superior but wasn’t sure about the other understudies. I saw Lesley twice as Mother Superior and I thought she played the role brilliantly. She definitely got the laughs from the audiences and thought her singing was perfect. Although I thought that Ruth was fantastic as well when I saw the show in Dublin. Would anyone reckon we might be getting any further casting news for Alexandra’s run anytime soon? I just hope they won’t leave it as long as they did the last time for the current cast. At that point I thought that we had to wait until the first performance of the show to get a full cast announcement 😂😂. |
