Only theatre available I suspect. That was the only reason I suggested it. It wouldn’t make sense for a producer to put a brand new production in there following ‘out of town tryouts’. It needs a venue where it can run open-ended or it limits its lifespan. Regardless, the announcement that someone said was coming this week didn’t happen. Hype created for the sake of hype? |

They've done WWRY and Bat out of hell so I don't see this as that big a departure to be honest Those two could reasonably sell out the Coliseum, and used the space to some effect. The set photos for this aren't exactly fit for the size the Coliseum demands. I mean, that place is big. REALLY BIG... Oh I know, I've been there. But people seem to mainly be taking issue with the type of show it is and I'm just saying, it's not the first tacky but crowd pleaser type show to be there. It sold well in Manchester so could sell well there for a limited run. |

Well, I'm not concerned about the show's content and type, it's simply the size of the venue in comparison to the show itself and whether enough people are going to see this to sell out the Coliseum 😂 |

Went back for a second visit last night and thanks to a bit of dynamic pricing got a front row seat for £15 which was well worth it.
Having previously endured the worst audince ever at the opening night on the first run, I was pleased that behaviour had improved this time. The only annoyance was some whooping and cheering during the big notes in the middle of the few of Ally's songs.
All the leads were great again. Todrick stole every scene he was in, shoehorned in some up to date references (being demure, brat summer etc). Jackie and Jess gave some brilliant vocal performances.The big dance numbers were fantastic.
I'd give it four stars again. Totally cheesy but if you don't think about the plot too much and enjoy the spectacle then it's a great night out.

Went to the matinee today. Started well enough, hunky chap sauntering on stage behind a scrim, followed by other guys and girls, none of them wearing very much. Problem is they were eventually joined by stage management, some of the cast left the stage and an announcement was made that the show was going to be delayed. Started about 25 minutes late.
Nice enough show, glad I’ve seen it, but there’s also something lacking. Still feels like a work in progress. Jackie Burns and Jess Folley are absolutely outstanding as the show’s two leading ladies, and for me that’s when the show was strongest. when it wasn’t trying to be THE TODRICK HALL SHOW. That’s not to say he didn’t have his moments, but quite a lot of his schtick also fell flat. Also found it hard not to think of Chicago with the cast hanging around the periphery, not least because when I saw Chicago Todrick and Callum MacDonald were in it.
This second run doesn’t appear to be selling well at all. Heard mention of upgrades on the door. Only booked at the weekend and paid £40 for my front row seat. Seemed pretty reasonable, but the front of the stage is ridiculously high. Wish I’d held out a little longer as it was reduced to £28.50 today.

Can’t imagine this is going to the Coliseum- they’ve already apparently booked Billy Elliot in as the musical there next year.
Also this won’t fit into the Garrick so that’s out.

Very much enjoyed this at the matinee today:
- Enjoyed the amendments to the plot.
- Enjoyed much of the new music.
- Visually didn’t feel cheap (except for some of the absolutely dreadful visuals on the LED wall, but most of the time they were fine).
- Cast largely good.
- Jess Foley, as other’s have said, is very good vocally. Acting decent too.
- Surprised how much I liked Todrick Hall.
Things I did not like:
- That awful version of You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me. Jackie Burns does the best she can with it but it’s very hard to listen and get Cher’s distinctive voice out your head, and the new arrangement and lyrics is just a downgrade in every sense.
- The audience. Dear lord, the audience. I mean the police weren’t called and I didn’t see any punch ups so they could be far worse, but so many groups around us spent lots of time chatting with no real attempts to whisper. Every time the volume of the music went up it was like they’d been given permission to talk. And honestly a few were a step away from throwing their knickers at the stage whenever there was a glimpse of a six pack (most of the show). During one scene in the second half, I felt like I was in a room of kids giggling at something rude while they’re with their parents rather than in a room of grown adults. The theatre does absolutely nothing to curb it, and I saw one woman have a bag literally full of cocktail cans delivered to her seat. It’s little things like pumping in P!nk songs and going round bellowing ‘no glass in the auditorium’ like it’s a gig that all just adds to getting people a bit too ready to let down their hair. ATG at its finest.

Having not seen it during its first Manchester run, thanks to a bit of dynamic pricing, I originally got a seat in the Circle but another look a few days on the OH ATG page, they reduced the row B stalls to the same price of £47 so I ended up their instead for today's show. After my viewing, I am so glad I did swap. A really fun afternoon watching this and for pure entertainment I certainly couldn't complain and got full value from my ticket. Thankfully, the audience were well behaved this afternoon so we could all enjoy this one without any issues.
I loved the cast today with Kitty Harris on as Ali and Alessia Mcdermett on as Nikki. Todrick Hall, I really enjoyed. Brilliant comedy timing and certainly owned the stage when he was on it. Great vocals and choreography from the entire cast on show backed by a decent set and video / lighting design. Whilst I found Steven Antim's book to be wafer thin for emotional engagement, The wow factor came from the cast and band whose energy levels today I couldn't fault. The score on the whole I loved though the arrangement for the Cher classic was unforgivable though Jackie Burns did her best. The sound design was fine being able to hear both vocals and the band.
Overall, this was a much better watch than Moulin Rouge and I am rating this 4 stars due to the issues with the book.

From row B I did miss a few body parts of cast members from the waist down if they where at the back of the stage or sat down at the back. Though this was really for a few minutes of the whole show and quite honestly was a great trade off for the atmosphere in the front stalls. If I was making a return visit, I certainly wouldn't hesitate sitting here again. It is certainly worth keeping any eye out for dynamic pricing for when you want to go. For my visit yesterday, if I had held out a bit longer I could of got a £15 row C stalls seat rather than the £47 I paid originally for my row B stalls seat. There are definite bargains to be had with seats for this one. |

I sat in the middle of the front row. The stage is quite high and curves out toward the audience, so I probably would have had a better view further off to the sides.

I went up to Manchester for the afternoon, with a cheap £15 seat and a free rail voucher a nice afternoon out. Firstly after reading back on here how well the first run sold and seemingly sold out, then the stress test is coming back where I was surprised this afternoon by how many empty seats there was. I haven’t seen the film and unfamiliar with the score. This could’ve been a score just composed as I recognised nothing, the score was alright.
The show was enjoyable enough, without throwing any real knockout punches, alright sums the show up pretty much - however I much prefer this than the dreadful Moulin Rouge and that is playing 4th year to sold out houses in London.
The set has no complexity it is really a video wall, a rising turntable (so high stage) and a metal stairwell in the middle, that becomes a bar, then a changing room etc, the set was alright. Not really a familiar cast which was led by Jackie Burns and Jess Folley, but all performed decently enough, but again with no standout wow moments, they were alright.
This will come into the West End on name recognition alone, I could see it doing a year at somewhere like the Garrick.
So a solid alright 3 stars from me. The show was alright.
In heavens name invest is a proper show curtain, nice with proper tailored velvet. Don’t use a projection onto a screen, that just looks proper twee and tawdry. That is not alright.

I checked again today and have managed to swap my 2 front row gallery seats to front row stalls for an extra £30 total. Slightly off to one side. Looking forward to trying it out, don't really sit in the stalls much just because I am used to visits with my daughter and we always sit higher up but as she's now as tall as me there's no reason not to try this out. |
