Sunset was probably Elaine at her peak. Aside Glenn, she is probably my favourite Norma and the one of the musical theatre leading ladies that hit both the singing and acting the most.

She sounded glorious. I couldn’t quite believe what I was hearing. I thought it must be studio trickery for someone to sing on their ‘break’ so consistently but no, there it was.

Re:Faith, There is also a studio recording of her singing The Perfect Year (with Earl Carpenter as Joe) but I can’t seem to find it on YouTube or iTunes. I must dig out my CD from the loft!
Re:Elaine, I remember that ALW said her version of AIWNSG was his favourite, that she ‘got’ the song more than any other performer.

It's such a shame Elaine didn't get a recording, wish she had originated instead of Patti to be honest

It’s hardly the most profound set of lyrics…

Maybe we could put a thorn in the side of The Bard by announcing either Patti LuPone of Faye Dunaway

At this rate we’ll get the announcement of Glenn Close’s movie version before this one…

It’s hardly the most profound set of lyrics… If it were that easy more actresses would knock the song out the park rather than just stand there and belt it out. It should be a moving and powerful scene, not just about the lyrics.

In the good old days, Baz would be announcing this circa 22:30 tonight.....
Do miss the Baz Thursday evenings!
As for the leading ladies, got me thinking, it was absolutely thrilling in the 90's who the next Norma was gonna be. Dunno if cos the musical was so big, the stars were so big, the combination was so big. But I honestly can't think of the ongoing casting/cast changes of a musical leading lady that's been as exciting since!

Probably Wicked, especially in the early years where as now it's more just the hard-core fan base.

I’d love my queen as Norma. Sadly she couldn’t sing this role anymore. A huge shame as this and Rose in Gypsy are the roles she should be playing now.

Ya know, I’d still love her singing to a dead monkey even with less stellar vocals.
I hope this revival, whomever cast, has a BIG set and Norma’s costumes on par with the originals and lots of turbans! …I hated the lack of turbans on the Glenn Broadway revival

Given this is supposedly going to the Savoy, the chances of a big set are zero.

Yup Encore - With One Look, As If… & Perfect Year. All great versions with full orchestration. I love that most of the Normas got to record at least three songs - even Pet Clark. I have most of them, including the German cast recording with a scary Helen Schneider.

There are other lyrics for the song, same with “with one look” (which I like)

Given this is supposedly going to the Savoy, the chances of a big set are zero. This is why we need details! Don’t forget the big ol’ sorority house frame set from Legally Blonde squeezed in there. Not complex, but large. We might get decent sized if money is being spent. The Watermill production that ended up at the Comedy looked okay (and almost country house creepy). It just sounded gash cos it was actor muso.

I've pretty much given up getting an Adelphi level revival ever, but the last UK set was pretty decent, except I hated the framing device. If they had got rid of that and let the set breath a bit it would have been better. As it was it felt a bit cluttered.
