I’m so blooming glad I forked out on Donmar membership now as I feel I have been very lucky Me to I feel so very lucky. When I saw it was just over 200 for every performance I thought I'd better pay to become a friend. I mean it's £85 but I don't go out much,buy loads of clothes or waste my money on usless stuff. David is my hobby so I thought why not. |

Well what a dream that booking was. I was in a total panic and was finished booking and had a completed transaction by 0908hrs, so worth the membership I agree managed to get my tickets in about 5 minute even in a que of about over 400 it went down very quick. First tickets I tried to book was at the right hand side of the stage. But as I was booking them a message came up telling me they were already being booked. So got the front tow of the circle. And on my birthday the second night December the 9th. So glad I payed to be a friend. |

Hi everyone!
Just found this site - wish I found it earlier, as this has been super helpful.
I'm from the US, and also just found out about this version of Macbeth, which I would absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE to see.
Obviously it is sold out, but I've looked into the day of, standing only tickets. On their site Donmar says they will release those tickets midday, on the day of performance, online only.
I'm considering risking a trip to London the week I can get off work Dec 17th - 23rd, just for a chance at getting a ticket that week (only for myself, 1 ticket only).
Wanted to ask the thoughts of those who are familiar with the Donmar - for something this popular, what do you imagine the chances are for day of tickets, 2nd week in it's run?
Is it a fool's hope to even try, or has anyone had good luck with getting these day of tix for just an individual?
I didn't see any resale options either. Does anyone has advice for where to keep an eye out for a reputable ticket sellers, or has anyone noticed tickets being returned and becoming available closer to the show date?
I've attended a handful of London shows over the years, but never at the Donmar, and I haven't been to London since the pandemic.
So any advice is welcome and highly appreciated, thank you in advance from this clueless American!

I’d be subscribing to alters from the Donmar, but also to this thread. Users were regularly posting when n2n tickets were released. We can count on the far sides still being pending to be released for this one but that typically won’t be until just before previews

I would expect a few extra seats (returns?) to go onsale shortly before previews begin. Keep looking! Also they do release a few seats every day for the performance 7 days ahead. I last did this for Next to Normal. At that time the seats were consistently going online a few mins before 10am. Just keep refreshing. They will go very quickly! If you try hard enough you have a good chance.

It's my experience that determined people do get to see popular shows at the Donmar:- (1) If you check your dates frequently, returns can show up in advance, which you can book right away; (2) As suggested above, sometimes they have unreleased tickets that they release, just as a show is going into previews, to give folks that just found out about the show a chance; (3) Returns on the day are definitely a thing for popular shows. I remember one girl, sitting next to me at the Ewan McGregor/Chiwetel Ejiofor Othello, telling me she had seen the show 8 times, just by queuing at the Box Office for day returns, and at the just finished "Next to Normal," another woman told me she had seen every performance in a whole week just by doing the same thing, though I think some of her returns were picked up online. Anyway, if you're (more) committed (than me), I think you've a very good shot. Good luck! |

This is very encouraging.
Incredible that some people were able to see a show so often in a week just by booking on the day tickets. I've always bought in advance (and been lucky enough to do so), but never tried for day of.
This forum made my day, will definitely be staying tuned to Donmar and this site...sounds like I'll be making a trip to London, thanks so much!!!

Since we're talking about tickets for this - I wondered if anyone here has one of the £10 under 30 tickets?
I'm asking as I have one for the 23rd December but won't be able to make it. I was wondering whether someone here would be willing to swap tickets (another £10 under 30 ticket) with me. I was hoping for any ticket before the 23rd and after the 2nd Jan. If the show wasn't sold out I'd obv just sell it or change the date with box office. The latter is impossible and I'm reluctant to do the former unless I get another ticket for a date I can attend.
Not sure if I'm allowed to post this here or whether it should be on the noticeboard. If I'm breaking any rules please let me know!

The earphones are fixed to seat, wired in and volume fixed. This much i know. How did they work for hearing aid wearers and also what about the hygiene? Not to be too paranoid we are still Covidy, and I’m not sure I want to wear something worn by someone with a cold, let alone Covid and then wiped over with a germ laden j cloth by an underpaid FOH. |

Much as I enjoyed, indeed loved, The Encounter, there was a sense that it was no longer a shared experience with your fellow audience members. You are in a little bubble, isolated by the headphones.
It does sound like they have good plans in terms of accessibility. Hygiene is a little sketchy at this stage. But hopefully it will be secure.
I wonder whether some of the soliloquys will be prerecorded to make them more interior monologues rather than the character sharing their thoughts directly with the audience
Time will tell.
Will be hard to do a broadcast...

Maybe the whole point is the broadcast; on the telly it doesn’t really matter where the voice is coming from. I must say that I booked this to hear and see Tennant act in front of me. I can access him on YouTube any day if the week.
As for hygiene, I take the point that any close contact is risky a la Covid but wearing something right on your face which might have been just before on the face of someone with covid or a cold doesn’t appeal. I’m not a silly person, I don’t still wear a mask and all that but I do have serious reservations which the person I spoke to at the theatre could not help me with.

It'd be interesting how they do it
A lot of places have shared headphones etc. My guess would be they have two sets of headphones for each audience member, or something a little over that, which they alternate and clean in between performances

Hoping the Almeida's forthcoming Lear and NT's Coriolanus will just aim for boring old good acting and directing in gimmick-free productions.
