The bloody gender balance on the Palladium Panto is an absolute joke. There are rarely more than two women in the cast. It’s ridiculous. Sorry to be a grinch but it just never changes. It’s archaic. Archaic ones might have been better — you'd probably have had a female principal boy! |

I saw Peter Pan QDOS Panto at Birmingham Hipp in 2019 (?) and it was pretty dreadful. The crocodile was fun (it was massive, so one can only imagine what will happen at the Palladium) but otherwise it was very forgettable. Darren Day or Pat Sharpe was Captain Hook, I forget which... |

Due to work I end up seeing a lot of pantos and must admit the Palladium one isn't my 1st choice. The production values are pretty good but the old gang is fairly predictable (even for panto) and often play themselves first and characters are lucky to get a look in.
I admit I do prefer one where some thought has gone into how the old jokes/fan favs can be included into the show while adding to the story line, not blocking it.

If people aren't bothered about sitting together / go solo and can wait for dynamic pricing to kick in, we split up when we saw the panto last year since the seats were cheaper. My solo seat in front of the beanstalk ended up being around £50, purchased >2 weeks before the performance. |

I don't think the team actually know - or perhaps like - the panto as at artform and think you can just treat it like a variety show and shove anything in forgetting storytelling or plot.The script is written by Paul Zerdin who has been using the same old schtick for years.In past pantos the story just seemed to peter - boom boom - out.And if I see the 12 days of Christmas one more time......At least Gary Wilmot tries a new novalty song most years.There's a thin line between being traditional and just lazy.For a brilliant example of a terrific panto look no further than Canterbury where Ben Roddy is dame every year but always does something NEW but also uses the "tried and tested" The Canterbury panto is so good - my partner hadn't been for like, 15 years but immediately recognised some of the classic songs but still felt super fresh |

Average price for a Friday evening in January is just over £80.
I also presume the crock (or some large effect) is going in the stalls between E to G as those rows have been removed from sale for all dates - including a route to the aisle

Peter Pan was traditionally played by a woman but gender swapping Hook and Tinkerbell is not something I've seen done before. Ironic how with so much gender neutral casting now that the tradition of ladies playing the principal boy in panto has gone out of fashion in more recent years. There has also been a trend to have actresses playing the ugly sisters in Cinderella in some pantos when the idea was always they were the Ugly sisters and looked grotesque and outrageous as they were played by men. When ladies play them they are often called the evil stepsisters as it doesn't seem right to have them called the ugly sisters. |

Restricted view front extreme sides of stalls have just been put up for sale - £20 each. Have grabbed one as sat in them for Jack and the Beanstalk last year and was very good value. Yes you're extremely close and do miss the rear of the stage, but compared to the prices elsewhere I recommend them.
