According to entertainment websites and tabloids Lulu will be the second guest judge on Let it Shine, following Amber Riley. They also are reporting the Take That musical shall be called The Band (original!) and aims to tour the UK in 2018. No full West End takeover just yet, thankfully.
Following The Girls, I find this unimaginative titling very tedious, if true. If Gary had his hands in other shows then we may have had The Witch (Wicked), The Drag Queens (Priscilla), The Shoe Factory (Kinky Boots) and The Thief (Les Mis)

I think the show would benefit touring the U.K. first instead of going straight into a West End venue. If it is the story of Take That then I can see it doing very well on tour at a different venue each week.

Is it really gonna be about the real Take That? Wonder if it will feature the very homoerotic relationship Gary and their manager had?!?

They could have used a name of one of their songs. Although to be fair, the best one "Never Forget", has already been used.

Is it really gonna be about the real Take That? Wonder if it will feature the very homoerotic relationship Gary and their manager had?!? Latest interviews rather vaguely say it's about "boy bands of the 80s" or something. In fact, it all sounds a bit freeform, I'm not sure he's even written it yet. If indeed there's much plot at all, it sounds like a concert style show and the clips of the TV programme look more like putting togeher a band, rather than actors. I'll still be watching though.

Gary Barlow "I feel jukebox musicals have got predictable" he says announcing his jukebox musical. Awful man To be fair, you only have to look at posts on here (and posts on the previous board) about jukebox musicals to see that he has a point. Whether his musical is going to bring anything new or original to the genre remains to be seen, but I see nothing wrong with his comment. I find him pretty inoffensive, really. The only thing that bugs me a bit about him is that he seems rather dour. When he pops up on TV being interviewed, I find myself thinking "I wish you'd attempt to crack a smile occasionally!" I hope he's slightly more cheerful on Let It Shine - even ALW managed a bit of levity on the TV casting shows he was involved in. Come to think of it, I'm going to miss his eccentricity on LIS, and his gallery of facial expressions! Incidentally, LIS starts this Saturday.

Wow, just like ur music Gary u sure know how to make exciting tv To be fair, again he has a point. His problem is that he seems to be coming across in interviews as a bit 'Head Teacher addressing the first assembly of the New Term'. Luckily, he's not making the TV show - he's just the ALW figure (and even he was a bit school teacher-ish at times). I think that as long as he doesn't attempt to be 'down with the kids' he should be fine! I think Graham will step in if Gary does start to take himself too seriously...or waffle on for too long!

Lonely lives on their phone? What does he think they're doing on their phones if not socialising? Goodness.

Sigh. He's such the musical theatre genius that he is working on another! It's set on a tax dodging cruise ship. This is his 4th (?) musical in two years?
Shall we all put Ina tenner each and buy him an island?

or be an actual financial success, or actually get an wider recognition. Considering his background youd have thought at least one song from one of his shows would have crossed over into the wider public conscious

Ah yes, the new face of musical theatre that's yet to have any of his shows win a Tony or an Olivier. Which are totally irrelevant to calling him "the new face of musical theatre", the amount of people who care about Tony or Olivier wins is miniscule in the grand scheme of things.

No they're actually not totally irrelevant. Someone like Sondheim or Andrew Lloyd Webber would never be as well-known in musical theatre if it wasn't for their slew of award winning musicals. You can't be the face of an industry until you've actually received at least some recognition from that industry, otherwise it's just whoever writes the most musicals.

Nonsense.
ALW is well known as he wrote a series of populist musicals that people wanted to see, he didn't become well known because he won some awards. Barlow is exactly the same in that he sells tickets off his name rather than any awards he may or may not have won.
Conflating someone being called "the new face of musical theatre" with awards is failing to recognise that they are two totally different things. I've no idea how many awards Sondheim has won but they don't cover up that outside of musical theatre circles he isn't actually that well known in this country - he's certainly not the "face of musical theatre" in the UK.
If you asked Joe Public on the street to name the "face of musical theatre" they would say ALW, Tim Rice, Michael Ball, Elaine Page and probably Gary Barlow. Awards recognition has nothing to do with it.
