I don't understand why people hated Amanda in Shrek, I thought she was great! Sure she is no Audra, Kristin or Idina, but she had a great charm, could hold a tune for the character and made it her own!

That is your opinion.
I felt she had no great charm and couldn't hold a tune.
I also felt her understudy, (and their understudy) would have been far more competent in the role but as they were not a "name" it was never an option.

This. Amanda Holden was terribly miscast in Shrek and I was truly shocked how she could be cast in a leading role after I had seen her understudy - the amazingly brilliant Alice Fearn - first. For Ms Holden's defense, though, her replacement in Shrek was even worse: Kimberley Walsh *shudder* And just for the record: I think Julie Atherton would have been the perfect Princess Fiona. |

I very much hope that they do this new show in the style of the old BBC shows. Also the design of the Superstar studio wasn't warm enough compared to the BBC shows. I also hope they'll bring back some people from the old panel. It would be nice to have John Barrowman back on the show.

I wonder what arrangement ALW had with the BBC. If he helped develop the format and has some form of ownership over it, they might not be able to do a carbon copy.

I honestly don't get why Gary Barlow's suddenly been getting so involved in musical theatre. He was always quite disparaging of it on the X Factor when someone sounded too musical theatre-y

I've seen The Girls and Finding Neverland and the scores are boring, simplistic and nowhere near the standard of Lloyd Webber, Schwartz, Menken, Sondheim and dozens of others I could mention... He needs to pay tax and stay away from theatre projects simply to rub his ego and bank balance! He's just using his fame for a commerical product - that should be illegal on the BBC. |

To be honest I don't care about the Take That musical itself. I'm just happy we'll be getting another musical theatre talent show on the BBC. I loved the old ones with ALW. I'd do Anything and Any Dream Will Do were the best seasons. They introduced us to incredible talents like Rachel Tucker, Sam Barks, Lee Mead etc.

He also pronounced it "Sall-ford". God knows why,

Maria Mckerlane asked him that and he said he wasn't allowed to say yet. Doesn't The Voice air on ITV in January? I wonder if it's up against that? Autumn is already sorted with SCD and X Factor.

As much as I also think it's great that there'll be a musical talent show back on BBC1, the only problem with it being a jukebox musical (with a relatively modern band at the helm of the music) is that the chance of there being much musical theatre promoted will be almost 0%, and the chance of us finding another musical theatre star or already recognised (in the theatre world) personality entering is quite low - unless they go down the route of having musical theatre trained actors singing Take That songs (though to be fair, there are a lot of recent musical theatre performers who can also turn their hand to pop style), or whether they are trying to find those who sing those types of songs authentically. Who knows. But I've no reservations admitting that I'll at least tune into episode 1! Even if it's just for Norton and Giedroyc alone...

They were TV talent shows, but minus most of the X-Factor-esq nonsense - so no crap auditionees for 'entertainment', no reliance on 'sob stories' and no 'joke' contestants. Early next year was what was said in the press release, so I'd guess either in the slot vacated by 'The Voice' or end of March to beginning of June, which was when the previous BBC shows aired. |
