I could see the plot working really well as a musical

Heard Mel Giedroyc talking about this today. A video of one of the songs sounds promising.

They’ve been all over our local news recently. We’re at the first preview so will report back.

Well, for a first preview this was in fantastic shape. Very light but melodic, musically I think Kinky Boots is probably the nearest comparison. All major key and upbeat (even when down) so there were no endless dirges. Some audience interaction with Mel if you’re stupid enough to be sat on the end of the front row 🙄. She plays several big characters, affectionately well, but is still very much herself. Some biggish MT names hidden in the cast too; Miracle Chance, Will Jennings, Emily Lane…all great. Act one outstayed its welcome by about ten minutes (they could easily run two scenes into one) but act two is knockout. ✅

I would have thought so, but worth getting on a coach for!

This is a wonderfully upbeat musical with some very good performances from the ensemble cast, and as a Bristol alum there were moments of nostalgia that delivered all the feels for me. Adam Bregman, Will Jennings and Eubha Akilade are the stand outs in this show, alongside an always-funny Mel Giedroyc, who plays a number of different characters. It deserves a life after Bristol and I hope it gets one.
Unfortunately there were three things that I felt detracted from the brilliance of this show. First, the sound in the BOV was terrible - at times you could hardly hear the singing - they could really do with sorting out the levels. Second, if you sit in the front four rows prepare to be blinded by the lights which appear to light up the audience far better than they illuminate the performers on stage. And finally they've all but cut the flipping brilliant "Touched by an Angel" that they've been using to trail this show, bar a very brief acoustic version which added absolutely nothing. I spent the entire time waiting to hear the superbly talented Adam Bregman sing this live, and it never materialised. Gutted. The video of the studio recording is now also conspicuously absent from the website. This was clearly intended as the show's "big number" and for me, it's poorer for it's absence. There are a few sections that could be tightened up which would help reduce the lengthy running time (show started 14:30 and finished 17:12) without cutting a good song.

I agree with all of the above - great little show, fantastic cast, sound poor on occasions, blinded sitting in the front row, definitely deserves to transfer. I also think the absence of Touched by an Angel is a terrible shame. I saw the first preview last week, which DID include the song (and it was so good!), and the second preview, by which time it had been cut. I spoke to Adam Bregman and Emily Lane afterwards, who confirmed that the creatives weren't sure it added to the storytelling. They were also obviously looking to trim the show down - the first preview wasn't far off three hours! I wondered whether it might reappear later in the previews, but it seems not.

Really enjoyed this today. Would love a cast recording.
If it transferred to the West End, a smaller house like The Vaudeville would be good.
The acoustic version of Touched By An Angel; who sang that? Was it someone from the band?

Any news of this getting a transfer? A friend was sat next to a producer at one of the performances and said that this was teased but would love to see more from this show!

There are many deep pocketed producers attached to this project. I find it highly unlikely that this is anything other than the start of a long journey.

Looks like this is off somewhere else... I was about to come on here and say the same thing, does anybody have any updates? I know they were recording the cast recording the other day so maybe it’s an allusion to this, but I’d love for it to go elsewhere???

Someone mentioned on here before about the email that Bristol Old Vic had sent out and now the Harold Pinter is free.. I know that Sonia Friedman is attached to this project, as are ATG producers so would this be something to go into the HP? I mentioned this on another thread to see what other people thought but I don’t think anybody was that familiar with the musical to help out this idea? Not sure if it can be disproved as I’ve also heard of Ride going into this venue as well as In Clay or Bronco Billy?

The Pinter doesn't feel like the right place for this - somehow I can't think of that as a venue for a popular musical - and I rather hope that the creative team is taking the opportunity after Bristol to tweak the show: although it was good, i don't think it was quite good enough yet for the West End and I'd love it to be even better if/when it comes to London.

Another Bristol Old Vic production backed by Sonia Friedman went to the Harold Pinter: the play 'Dr Semmelweis'. Not really an indicator of anything, but....factual. lol

Could shove Mel from Mel and Sue out on the telly promoting it too which might help over the summer I guess.

I didn't realise Sonia Friedman was connected to Starter for Ten? Maybe she’s not but I’ve definitely read it on a threat or a Tweet somewhere?

I can’t find my programme but remember that there were lots of different names though, including Tom Hanks & Rita Wilsons ‘Playtone’ and the Old Vic.
Edit: Longshot films, Antic productions, The Old Vic & Playtone.
