The German version now has a British engine called Brexit, who quits before he even enters the race. I don't think we'll see him in a new British version though In the older ones the British train was delayed due to staffing issues wasn't it? (Could be worse — TransPennine told me that my last train "was cancelled due to short-notice timetable alterations". Ah, so my train is cancelled because it was cancelled. Helpful.) It was indeed! The introduction during the arrival of the international trains used to be "Battling through the wrong kind of snow", followed by the staffing difficulties delay

I’m not exactly sure why people still come for Mr. B. He knows from which he speaks. I’d love to see a revival of Starline express weather at this venue or another. It’s been running in Bochum for so long that it’s obvious that there’s still interest in it. In that version, they made big papa, big mama, and then not sure if she’s still in it but reva rice, who played Pearl was playing that role. When this thread started, someone claimed it was the dumbest thread they'd ever seen. It was rude and was deleted by mods, but still referenced to in later posts on here. And now they're happy to see people proven wrong that it's actually happening, like they knew all along, when they very clearly didn't.

I seem to remember the original post being vague and not even based on rumour. Just a wish.

Can BurlyBeaR or @pdc amend the thread title as it's Troubadour not Troubador.

I seem to remember the original post being vague and not even based on rumour. Just a wish. Starlight to Troubadour 2024 doesn't sound that vague to me. And it was a different poster who said it was just speculation/a wish.
Maybe you were just upset that someone stole your scoop. Don't worry, they'll be plenty more to come, i'm sure

Does my muddled old brain deceive me, or was the matinee for this on a Tuesday back at the Apollo Vic? I know Phantom did Tuesdays for a while, but wouldn’t it be great to fill the few empty matinee days? I love it over Christmas and New Year when show schedules go rogue and you can fill otherwise dull days with unexpected treats. More of that please theatre gods.

Sorry but the first post in this thread reads entirely like a shot in the dark:
"The theatre is perfect for Starlight, but do they want it. The expectation I think would be for an open ended run."
This is a question - someone has come up with an idea and is musing it out loud, this is not a 'this is happening' - or if it is, it's badly written 🤷🏻♂️
(This sounds harsher than I meant it - should not type whilst walking - but my point still stands 🤷🏻♂️)

Safer to keep it as a museum piece and raise a discussion, than turning it into a ‘tripping over itself mess of ‘right on’. They are people acting; ‘pretending to be trains’. As long as the bad behaviour is ‘punished’ and made a point of, it is definitely preferable to a ghastly mess.
Totally agree with this. And I'm not sure that innuendo in itself is a problem anyway. I mean, Cats has an orgy scene and people still take their children to see that!

And I'm not sure that innuendo in itself is a problem anyway I can already see the conniptions when lines like "Come and bite my burgers - I'm hot and cheap and quick" are left like that. I personally don't mind, it's funny how I'm super sensitive to sexism in many shows, but Starlight has never struck me as such, since the males aren't treated any better - what about Dinah complaining about Electra "I don't think he can whistle at me, he lacks the apparatus" It's just all-around goofy.

Orgy scene? I don't remember that but I do remember Paul Nicholas sitting in my lap during the original production.

Yes, exactly, and specifically the bit in the middle of the Jellicle Ball where everything slows right down before the music kicks off again.
Anyway, back to Starlight Express, one minor moment I wish they would bring back is when everyone tells Control to "Shut it" at the end. (Does this need spoilers for a 40 year old story?) I genuinely think it's an important turning point when the rest of the characters realise that Rusty can utterly disobey Control's instructions and make up his own rules by turning up for the final race that he's been disqualified from. The message that you can and should take control of your own life and not just play the role you're being railroaded into still has a very modern resonance, I think.

I absolutely agree. Also, with some of the changes they’ve made, I really think they should change Dinah and Greaseball’s ending: Dinah: Greaseball you’re hurt! GB: No, Dinah, please don’t cry….. I don’t know how to tell it. Dinah: Come on Greaseball, you can spell it. GB: OK, Dinah, I’m S-O-R-R-Y! Dinah: Go away you bast- Control: THIS IS CONTROL! …

I'd love it to be the original, as unlikely as that is. Bring back CB as the real villain of the show, along with 'There's Me' I think people might have something to say about 'He Whistled At Me' and dodgy lyrics like 'You gotta make it so that he can't guess, when you are saying no, but meaning yes'

So that moment IS back in the current (30th anniversary) Bochum version. There are a lot of positives in there. I’ll compile a list at some point :-)
