Is it solar powered? Please say that it's solar powered. Since coal is no longer an option due to global warming, the final "steam will have a second coming" won't fly anymore. I always thought Rusty should transform into Sunny the solar powered engine for the happy end. On a more serious note, I am ignoring their social media now - the modern kind of "advertising" saying nothing at all makes me actively angry. Why not SHOW us the auditorium? Why not a few costumes? Why not show Rusty and Pearl in costume singing a few lines? At this stage - just one week from opening - this would surely create more buzz than this nonsensical "oooh, you won't believe it!" "We got suuuch a surprise for you!" stuff. When have you ever seen that for any production that hasn't had a preview yet? 40 years ago shortly before the original production opened. There were articles with photos in the newspapers and even an extra magazine was published by one of the Sunday newspapers. The same was done for POTO in '86. No photos of the set but definitely of the costumes. I wish they would show us something, too. |

Not long now to wait for this new production. I have a feeling it is going to blow us all away with the technology. Times are a changing in theatre if you have a lot of money behind you, which this does.
The ticket prices are extreme though, I wonder if they will level out as every time I look they have gone up another £30, not that that seems to be stopping ticket sales!
I can not wait to see this in a few months.

There’s just a runway around the auditorium and one other level on the stage.. a bowl like ramp which is pretty identical to the original production. dont get too excited! |

Really looking fwd to seeing it Sunday, so fingers crossed they don't cancel some early previews.

The lighting and sound is what will make this show. Probably more important than the track.

Yes, why would we not get excited? I never saw the original production, and actual live racing rather than a 3-d video experience sounds fabulous. Can't wait.

Yeah and in 2024 it’s inevitably all gonna be about lighting/projections/video and (hopefully) decent sound.
We know there is track. I don’t think anyone’s expecting vast expanses or multiple levels of it!

It will be a disappointment for audiences and an embarrassment for ALW if this production doesn’t surpass Bochum. If the aim isn't to do that then why bother?

Assuming that it still has the capabilities of its former tv studio self, you’d hope that there is the juice to power what they need flowing in. Newsies presumably chose not to spend on putting tracks in for the big towers they had on Broadway, knowing that it wasn’t permanent.

The big stuff like the bridge in Bochum will not happen in Wembley. While the Troubadour is at least a big empty box and not a listed ancient West End theatre, it's still not the same as building a theatre for Starlight Express from the ground up. And I'm no engineer, but when I saw Newsies at the Troubadour the whole building seemed to have the stability of a paper carton. Definitely nothing to hang heavy machinery from the ceiling. They can and hopefully create some great illusions with projections and lighting and just having the performers race through the audience again should be thrill enough for those who never saw the AV version. Still, for all the technical wizardry that's possible these days, I hope they won't forget about the heart of the story. Many of the best moments of the show are actually the quieter ones, such as Rusty singing Starlight Express under a sky full of twinkling stars without any bombastic effects. |

We get rehearsal photos which were less of an asset in the 80's but other than some productions (rarely) releasing some staged portrait shots it's very unusual these days to see anything before a preview performance. Especially when advance sales are good. |

Very this. I don't get all the negativity, I'm just amazed and very happy that we're getting a "proper" version with an actual immersive set. I'm not expecting bigger than Bochum as that not realistically possible in the Troubadore, but I damned excited either way.

Premium seats are £180 for some of the performances! I originally had the 9th booked. I am now changing my 9th of June one as the 1st Class Carriage seats aren't moving like it stated originally and honestly I'm in no rush to view it from there as of right now. Plus the fact that those seats have been reduced on some days to like £98 - £110. Plus I'm seeing it on the 8th of June as well and that ticket was cheaper than what I paid for the other one. |
