You do know they build the set in a workshop- not the theatre , right? What i meant was it doesnt seem a long time from when Rollerscape clear the space to get in such a large technical immersive show and be ready for when the cast move in.
But i guess it doesnt take long to bung some plywood on the floor.Â
The website has promised skating around and above you, so i'm looking forward to a mult tiered set.
Might be that the set is built offsite then loaded in/assembled so 3 months would be plenty of time for load in/tech rehearsals, not to mention time for the cast to adjust to the set. When I joined the London cast, we had 2 weeks prior to main rehearsals just to skate/familiarise ourselves with the set which was a smart move. |

I never knew this until last week, but in the first workshops for Starlight, before they began the Apollo Victoria production, the main role of Pearl was played by Tracey Ullman.
And she wasn't bad in it either.

Yes, I’ve seen those workshop videos. Very interesting to see where it all started. I think Ullman was supposed to play Pearl in the original run, but for whatever reason Stephanie Lawrence ended up doing it.

I was having a look at bookings out of curiosity just now (I'm already booked to see it in July).
They have a traffic light system on the date page to show availability and I had to scroll through to the end of October to find a single date in green which is good availability.
Just shows how we all love a bit of nostalgia. I wonder if the producers expected it to be this popular

I was having a look at bookings out of curiosity just now (I'm already booked to see it in July). They have a traffic light system on the date page to show availability and I had to scroll through to the end of October to find a single date in green which is good availability. Just shows how we all love a bit of nostalgia. I wonder if the producers expected it to be this popular I would never have expected or anticipated that it would sell this well... but I suppose nostalgia coupled by the fact that this is being created as a huge "event" is definitely catching people's attention |

My only surprise is why it took them so long to take the plunge! |

It's tricky - ALW is by no means a "bestseller" anymore as Cinderella and Aspects of Love proved and even the revival of Cats (the behemoth of a hit show in the 80s through early 90s) didn't do all that well. So it was by no means guaranteed that another ALW revival would suddenly become a smash hit. My guess is that apart from nostalgia one big factor is ticket prices. So many current shows charge huge sums for small casts, small bands, mono stage sets, etc. - with Starlight Express people KNOW they will get spectacle, so they are far more prepared to spend big in advance without worrying if they'll be getting their money's worth. I also said from the start that I personally think the location in Wembley is a pro, not a con, as it's far more accessible by car without having to drive into the West End from the regions and cheaper and more convenient too when travelling with the whole family. |

Yep, the double whammy of being able to drive there alongside being so family friendly is what I think has made this fly. For years we have regaled our kids with tall tales of ‘standing at the back for a fiver, whilst trains whoosh past you’, sitting next to the track, the cast skating around the auditorium and the giant bridge swinging around. When we got to take them to the woefully underwhelming tours it felt like a real kick in the teeth. Hopefully this new production and the nearly £500 I’ve spent on our tickets can go some way to bringing that memory back to life for them (now aged 26,24 and 21 (today 🎉)) and bring back some of that old Starlight sparkle.

Yes, I agree viserys - ticket prices are a big factor for me. If I want to see something, I now book early to get in at a "fair" price, instead of being at the mercy of dynamic pricing once word of mouth gets around. I've never been to the Troubador before - is there actually on-site parking, or would you recommend getting the train/tube? |

If come down the large fights of stairs and start walking towards the Stadium, it's the first right. It kinds sits behind the McDonald's. |

We parked with ease in a car park round the corner and it wasn’t obscenely expensive. Might have been part of a hotel. Edit- it was the Wembley Hilton ‘Gold’ parking. The designer outlet also has a multi storey within easy walking distance. |

However, it looks like the skate school started today, so I suppose we’ll find out soon enough! |

I wonder if they intentionally hold off casting announcements until after skate school is complete. I mean, there’s bound to be some very talented performers who simply can’t do it no matter how hard they try. Would be a bit embarrassing to be fired so publicly. |
