A sense of normality this morning, first ticket booked for what seems a lifetime. Ticket price was not exorbitant and quite good value for what will be a reduced capacity and would advise booking directly as notably cheaper if interested.
The first night had no tickets available and chose the the second night, (Sat 24th) not sure what to expect but nice to have something in the Calendar again and being the third performance the novelty will have hopefully worn off along with some of the rough edges.
A play that was always on my must see list only as it was always on was in no hurry to do so, good to get in early as with the increased exposure keeping the denouement off public media will likely be difficult over the first few weeks as everyone whether there or not will be posting.

So how is social distancing going to work? The seats seem to be in twos and three's, so what does a solo theatregoer do?
I do see they have no quibble exchanges up to 24 hours before, that's a brilliant policy and I'm much more inclined to book knowing that.

I suggest they go the whole hog and ditch the usual seating, bring in tables and waiter service. And make evening wear compulsory...even at matinees. Standards have fallen far too low over recent years! 🙂 |

I was also unsure about how the social distancing would work as there were no individual seats available on the night I wanted and booked one in a group and did wonder whether it would allow me to do so.
Maybe once sold out they will space people out or will happen naturally once there.

They'd have done best to make the ends of each row a single seat with a two seat gap then fill the rest with two's and three's. |

I booked for the first Saturday evening (when I should have been at Cinderella). Got an odd one upper circle at the back at the side for bottom price. I assume it is a solo one rather than one left over from a block of 3. Again a show I’ve wanted to see for a while but never felt the need to rush!

I'll tell you a dark secret...
In 2012/13, long before I'd caught the theatre bug, I spent a year in London getting my MSc degree.
I was on an FCO scholarship (i.e. basically broke), had plenty of other priorities (meaning, I was not that young, but definitely a little stupid, from today's perspective) and - thinking that theatre is ridiculously expensive - I managed to go to an actual venue only once that whole year: I bought my now-ex boyfriend tickets for The Mousetrap, to mark the occasion of his birthday.
I remember liking the show, but perhaps it was the whole event of the ritual of going to the theatre together that added some magic to it.
I do not, however, remember who'd done it, so I might eventually go back and see it again if it really reopens soon.

The Mousetrap will be reopening with 2 separate casts in covid bubbles so that if a cast member in bubble A becomes sick, the whole of that cast and test and isolate and the second bubble cast can go on keeping the show on the road.
No mention if SM will be doubled up....

Good for them! When I went there were plenty of spaces ...but this is an opportunity to get people in who are looking for theatre with a limited choice.

I can’t think of a less exciting show to have back on stage, and bizarre as it 90% relies on America. Tourists for its audience.
At least they tried I guess.

I'm finding myself much more annoyed by this cancellation than others probably unfairly. They've been planning to open for a long time having gone for being "first to open" and it doesn't feel to me that that much has changed in the last week.
I was going to see it because it was the only thing open and I wanted to support it. Now I think I will ask for a refund rather than credit and spend the money on something that is actually opening.

Sadly I don’t imagine much will be opening before Xmas seeing as we are on the verge of a London lockdown. I cannot see Six and whatever else is planning on opening soon, actually happening. They should be forced to pay the refunds out of their own pockets, not the theatre! That would soon shut up quite a few of the morons if they do actually start having to pay hefty fines. But that would require a government willing to fund proper enforcement rather than a PM who doesn't know his own rules... |

I think my general disappointment at this backward step in the partial reopening of theatres has caused me to "shoot the messanger". I suppose the other problem is that this is an independent production. I also have bookings with the Bridge Theatre and Nimax but if they are forced to postpone I have a lot more confidence there will be something else in the future I will want to spend any refund credit on. |

How has this one sold?
As in, are they postponing because they are worried about being shut down with a lockdown or are they postponing because advance sales have been pretty low and they are worried that with a lockdown that would still allow them to operate, they would have some people asking for refunds and would be selling less additional tickets that they might have been hoping for with word of mouth coming in, etc, making it less viable than they had hoped?

I got an email to use my voucher and am so busy I decided I’d wait until the autumn. Then saw the announcement and thought it would be cool to see Cassidy Janson so I’ve booked! Danny Mac is in for a very short time so I miss him. I was happy to see the show later in the year with any cast but after seeing Cassidy in Wicked, Beautiful, Chess, Man of La Mancha and &Juliet it will be cool to see her in a straight play.
