Having seen the clips on Children in need tonight, I am definitely not enticed to go and see this , some of the singing was dire!

I literally saw the last 20 seconds and that was enough to make me wince. It's my era and I should love everything about it but it looks like a car-crash waiting to happen. I'll be reviewing in Milton Keynes in March so I'll make sure they throw some wine in to numb the pain 🤣

I caught a few moments of the CIN performance by chance and wished I hadn’t! I’m booked to see this in Southampton at the end of January but crikey… I hope they’ve had some singing lessons by then!
It was like nails down a blackboard at one point. Here’s hoping it was just down to bad acoustics for TV and ‘it sounded fine in the studio’.

I thought it was very, very average on Children in Need. Would not inspire me to book whatsoever. Can't see ATG transferring this to the West End, certainly not without major work.
I remember seeing Mrs Doubtfire on CiN last year and was quite impressed, in contrast.

I don’t think they shone (as has been mentioned a lot of talent in the cast) but must have been hard squeezing this in around previews and press night then squeezing in 2 presenters in a show nobody knows. It hasn’t put me off going and luckily doesn’t seem to have put off my mum either!

It was painful to watch, I was never an SAW fan but there is a retro market for that era before you consider Kylie's longevity and Rick Astley's renaissance in recent years. It's probably never going to be a West End show but has potential to be a good touring production in a lot of the big town and city theatres.

Cancelled this afternoon due to cast illness and one cast member being taken to hospital. Wishing them all a speedy recovery. Also I hope the foul woman who yelled abuse whilst the official was reading the (very well written) statement is proud of herself. As if they would cancel if it wasn’t a last resort.

I've heard about this incident today, saw an awful tweet from an audience member who was furious that the show was cancelled 20 mins after it started. It's definitely your typical musical that has a poor storyline, lots of songs shoe horned into it and very little impact. I think it'll attract those audience members we've been hearing a lot about this year too. |

It never actually started. We sat waiting and then the announcement was made. I honestly don’t get people sometimes; yes, I can understand disappointment but surely people realise that sometimes things cannot be helped.

Seems like they aren't so Lucky with another cancelled performance. Apparently they had to cancel one a few weeks ago due to a flood. I had a friend who was due to go and he said they'd emailed him to cancel it.

That report saying the show has received "rave reviews" made me laugh. There's been one rave review, from the person who wrote that article. |

Pete Waterman just talking about the show on Radio 2 and said that this was the ninth attempt they had at making a musical but the first time it had worked. Would hate to hear what the other eight attempts were like!

I have seen I Should Be So Lucky and I loved hearing the SAW songs on stage, the show was great fun and the cast gave 100%. So from a personal enjoyment perspective I'd give it five stars. However as a piece of musical theatre, even as a jukebox musical, I don't think anyone could claim it to be a work of art and the storyline was frankly absurd. Viewed objectively it's only two stars from me. I will definitely be it seeing again.
There's another musical which I won't name that I found rather dull and depressing and haven't booked for a revisit at its future venue. I would nevertheless rate it the reverse to ISBSL - five stars as musical theatre of the highest standard but two stars for entertaining me.
So is the star rating first and foremost for our subjective or objective view about a particular show ?

I saw this yesterday afternoon and really enjoyed it, I thought it was great fun. It's definitely a marmite show though, I can completely understand why it would be some people's definition of a nightmare. The group next to me didn't return after the interval (although they may have had other reasons).
I really love the soundtrack; although I can only just remember the 80s and so didn't know all the songs, but they were mostly the same sort of style so I enjoyed them all. Yes it's cheesy, and the audience sing and dance along, but it doesn't take itself seriously and doesn't require any concentration.
For me it was a fun couple of hours, and everyone I could see seemed to really enjoy it. I'm considering going again next year.

I saw it there on Tues and whilst the cast were all trying hard, and there’s some great songs in there, I thought it was pretty dire. Bad story, badly acted, and even poorly sung in several places. As a big Kylie fan I’m a bit disappointed she signed off on being involved with this! |
