UK tour of new musical featuring the songs of Stock Aitken and Waterman.
"The Wedding Is Off, but the Honeymoon is On!
Head from the aisle to the isles in the official Stock Aitken Waterman musical featuring the soundtrack of a generation with music from pop royalty including Kylie Minogue (I Should Be So Lucky), Rick Astley (Never Gonna Give You Up), Jason Donovan (Especially for You), Bananarama (Love In The First Degree) and so many more, all woven into this original story.
Hilarious and heart-warming – I Should Be So Lucky is about family, friends, love and great times. Soaring anthems, classic pop tracks and dazzling dance sequences come together featuring no less than 10 Number 1 singles and over 30 songs from the Hit Factory whose music defined an era. The creative team is led by stage and screen legend Debbie Isitt (director and writer of the hit Nativity! franchise) and Jason Gilkison (creative director for Strictly Come Dancing and Eurovision 2023) and the music genius of Stock Aitken Waterman.
Ella and Nathan, a young couple, hopelessly in love, and about to take the biggest step of their lives – marriage. Until it all goes wrong. Will they be together forever, or will he make her cry and say goodbye?"

My type of music and era for nostalgia but I think I'll stick to the originals. Bound to be cheap and tacky

I'll reserve judgement but I don't think most people could claim that most SAW songs had meaningful sophisticated lyrics. So easy to pop into a trashy love story but none of the poignancy and melancholy of late-period ABBA or the deft story-telling of Madness, which raised Mamma Mia and Our House above the typical join-the-dots jukebox musical.

I wrote this musical in my head about 15 years ago 😆
Lonnie Gordon’s ‘Happening All Over Again’ featured heavily…Big Fun not so much.

I can only imagine how they might incorporate The Reynolds Girls' 'Id Rather Jack...'

Surely it's got to be Never Gonna Give You Up for the happy ending finale?
This whole thing sounds pretty dreadful but then so did Club Tropicana and I ended up seeing that and enjoying it for what it was. No point pretending I won't be there for this too!

One of the best concerts I ever went to was a SAW Christmas show at the o2 some years ago. Practically every singer/group who have ever been on that label were performing including Kylie and Jason who sang together for the first time in years. It was the campest and one of most fun nights I've ever had.

There was a really good 2-part documentary on 5 recently called “Stock Aitken Waterman: Legends of Pop”.
Really interesting and great fun revisiting the hits and lesser-known hits. I was worried it would be a typical “ask anyone” affair, but it’s got some really good talking heads on it.
Might still be available on My5 if you’re interested.

First venue apparently Southampton Mayflower Theatre, as is the case with Spongebob Squarepants Musical next month.

Over 30 songs? That seems like alot, but then i checked and & Juliet has 29, which surprised me.
Hopefully it will have some Hazel Dean, Donna Summer and Sybil!

Moulin Rouge has over 70 credited in the programme... Is there really? wow. I've not seen it, partly because of its singing 3 lines and then onto a new song, too much whiplash trying to keep up. Their work with Summer was amongst their best wasn’t it? They certainly grew up a little working with her. Her songs weren't the usual teeny pop they were pumping out at the time. Hopefully they'll be able to fit Roland Rat's song, S.W.A.L.K

Agree - and I absolutely love SAW, and am knowledgable about their music to a "trainspotter level" - however I want no part of it in musical theatre, and everything about this synopsis sounds utterly ghastly.

£20 for opening night in Manchester for TheatreCard holders.
I know what you're thinking, we should be so lucky, but it's true!
