It is New Year’s Eve, 1942, and a skinny 27-year-old Italian-American singer is about to step onto the stage of New York’s Paramount Theatre and give a performance that will change music history. As Frank Sinatra’s career suddenly skyrockets, he struggles with balancing the love of his wife, Nancy, against the demands and temptations of being the most popular singer in America. But when he begins a torrid affair with movie goddess Ava Gardner, his records stop selling and the press turns against him, sending his career into a tailspin. Driven by his devotion to his family, Sinatra employs his peerless artistry and dogged determination to stage the greatest comeback in showbiz history. I’ve booked a preview for this, I enjoyed What’s new Pussycat so this should be good. An excellent offer at The Rep currently buy tickets for 3 selected shows pay for 2. Will now be going to see Noises Off and Tony as well, all for just over £40. A bargain.

The first two rows of the stalls are only £25 and it's not a high stage as I recall. Middle seat in the front row booked for the first weekday matinee.

They're only £20 at some shows, and all seats appear to be £15 at previews, so I've gone for the latter.
It's a pity that, when you've already booked shows in the current promotion where you get 33% discount for booking 3+ shows, you can't add an additional show. Especially when shows in the promo went on sale on different dates.

Tony Award winner Matt Doyle (Company, Little Shop of Horrors) will be heading to Birmingham this autumn in the world premiere of Sinatra the Musical. Doyle will take on the title role in the show, which opens on 23 September at the Birmingham Rep. The show will feature 20 actors and 17 musicians performing over 25 of Sinatra’s famed songs. Assume this must be a pre broadway tryout, maybe west end. But I suspect broadway might be first.
It's likely cheaper to try out here than in the US at the moment

That's some cast of characters: Lana Turner, Judy Garland, Marlene Dietrich, Billie Holiday, Nat King Cole, Gene Kelly, Sammy Davis Jr as well as all the Sinatras and Ava Gardner. Given that only Lana wasn't a singer and they're using the Sinatra back catalogue, are they all going to be fighting for a line/verse/chorus of a song to sing or will they all be on mute?

Presume this is lining up a west end transfer? I believe so as I did a survey about it recently. With today's news of Ain't Too Proud closing early in September, I wonder if this could go straight to the Prince Edward Theatre for a short run before MJ in the spring? |
