Desmonda Cathabel only seems to be Jasmine for Edinburgh. I wonder if they have a name to do the rest of the tour but isn’t available to open the show. or she might have another commitment after edinburgh! That’s correct. She has a bigger project from October to December

But isn't that show pre-recorded? The finale is live. I assume they’ll be in rehearsals for a few weeks.

Yes the final two (?) For each role is live, where the viewers will vote for who will go into the production.

So she's not doing the rest of the Aladdin tour until they know if she's won the Mamma Mia show basically?

I guess if they announce her for the full tour it’ll give away whether she makes the finale

Just back from seeing this the cast really make the show all 3 leads are perfect apart the from the big numbers the show is very… meh
it was quite annoying that you can see through the wings and you can see quite a few cast members talking to each other when hiding behind set pieces, waiting for their que

How does it compare to London? Is it scaled back a lot?

Saw this last night. Very disappointed...
Lacks any sort of theatrical and Disney magic. The "sets" look cheap. So many moments of characters just standing in front of a curtain.
The leads have absolutely no chemistry and both are doing this panto-style acting where they are saying every single line with the exact same tone of voice. - it was their first night so this could change but the thing as a whole seemed well-rehearsed. The carpet was nice but just felt awkward? Beautiful voices from both though.
I'd say the only redeemable factor was the charisma of the actor playing the genie. Yeukayi did a fantastic job of bringing back the audiences attention after a SLOW first act.
I don't think I could recommend this to anyone over the age of 10. Such a shame as I was excited about this tour starting in Edinburgh. Shame that this can attract an audience but something as well-crafted as the Bedknobs and Broomsticks tour can't.
2 stars.

It doesn't sound like this is any different than what was in the West end though... It looked like a QDOS panto then, the acting was hammy, the cast had zero chemistry - like they've essentially just recreated what happened in London so I say job done?

Since Desmonda is still only scheduled for Edinburgh does that mean we can assume she is in the finals for Mamma Mia. At first I thought they were just saying that so nothing would be given away however they start performances in Wales in 3/4 weeks and nobody has been announced to take over so maybe we’ll see her eliminated in the next few weeks.
I personally think she’s great and would be delighted if she won however I do think after the success she’s already had she’s almost too good for Sophie. It’s not a super challenging role like Kim in Miss Saigon for example.

In a shock twist, Desmonda is now confirmed for the rest of the tour.

I saw this recently in Cardiff and it is very bad.
The leads are poor, no chemistry or charisma. Only positive for them was they can sing.
The first act was so slow, and I was begging for Genie to arrive to bring some life into the show. Yeukayi Ushe is bar far the best part of the show and made it bearable.
The set was shockingly poor (a lot worse than the recent beauty and the beast tour) and there were just too many scenes in front of the curtain which for a Disney show was terrible. The flying carpet was nice and the ensemble all worked hard but I was actually relieved when it finished.
I may be in the minority as there was a huge standing ovation so it seems that most people enjoyed it. Im not sure why!!
If you are wondering whether to see this then I’d say save your money.

Just to offer an a alternative view. I travelled from Kent to Cardiff to see Aladdin matinee last Thursday at one of my favourite venues and was an instant part of the near-total standing ovation. Worth every penny of the ticket price and travel costs. I would never have believed Trevor Dion Nicholls could be bettered as the Genie but for me Yeukayi achieved that and Desmonda sung beautifully. Set looked fine to me. Will be booking for Milton Keynes and Bristol at least. I think I am in the vast majority of the general public who will choose to see this show and have a spectacularly great time.
