I didn't rate the West End version.

I enjoyed it ok in London but it did feel very panto-like. I probably wouldn't pay the inflated prices to see it again, even with ot being more local. I'm sure it'll go down well with families though.

Me and family all enjoyed it, but some elements were a let down and panto ish (mainly Jafar and his scenes/set).
Also the two original leads weren't great
I hope they don't scale it back for the tour, otherwise it really will look like a panto too, and not a good one

Completely agree with others, when I saw this it felt like panto with a budget. The set and illusions (flying carpet etc) were fantastic and were its saving grace, if it gets scaled back on tour there won't be a lot to recommend about it apart from that brilliant score.

Because some of it was amazing. Some was okay and some was below average. But I do wonder if they thought it through. I wonder what you thought of Frozen?

Agree with all the other posters. I actually saw this in the US and it felt like a panto in all but name - probably quite a novelty in the US as that's not a theatre form they're familiar with, but over here I can imagine it falling very flat because whilst it's a spectacle it misses the actual wit and bite of real panto.
A scaled down tour worries me even more...

I really enjoyed Frozen, and I didn't expect to tbh as I find the film incredibly over rated and its never struck me as a story suited to being a full musical. The spectacle definitely adds to it though and I don't think it would be as good scaled back. The spectacle helps creates the disney magic. I would hope they don't scale it back for the tour as its not something disney are known for doing. Lion king tours pretty much as it is in London, and the original Beauty and the beast toured. I just hope they don't do a 'reimagining' like the recent beauty tour and its a whole new production. I'll have to look up reviews on the US tour to see how different it is from Broadway, if the dates don't clash I guess we may even be getting that set.

I would guess that the UK tour will be based on the current 2nd US tour which is slightly scaled back.

Surprised we've not heard any casting yet, it starts on 24th October.
I'd forgotten the tour was actually happening lol

Are they going to cast someone who can sing the score without trashing their voice this time round?

With Next To Normal finishing on 7th October are we just expecting Trevor Dion Nicholas to slip straight back into the Lamp?
NB: obscenely priced in Cardiff in Christmas week. I’m proper uncertain after B&TB & cheapo Newsies about new Disney product. You used to be guaranteed a visual feast. For £80 I want better.

This production is certainly not worth that much. The sets are much, much simpler and cheapened than the spectacular original production. There´s only 8 in the pit and 23 (plus swings/standbys) in the cast. {Some physical production stuff that´s changed} The opening curtain isn´t a kabuki anymore. You don´t get the big Agrabah reveal either, it´s just the scrim that raises up. The market set is incredibly simple Little to none automation in the set. Everything is much simpler than the West End production, though still a decent Bob Crowley design. No flying carpet at the end The big spectacular scene everyone´s looking forward too, is still stunning and spectacular, though not the same illusion. It´s still a very enjoyable night out and a beautiful score, but certainly not one to spend too much money on.

Desmonda Cathabel only seems to be Jasmine for Edinburgh. I wonder if they have a name to do the rest of the tour but isn’t available to open the show.

Cathabel is an unknown actress, why would they rehearse someone who can only do 3 and a half weeks of work before leaving for another job? The more likely answer is that she’s covering for the principle Jasmine and will become the standby or alternate when the official Jasmine joins the tour in Cardiff.
