I absolutely love Gina Beck but she’s taken a while to take holy orders hasn’t she?

I'm very tempted by Gina Beck's casting but I'd want to know the casting of at least Captain Von Trapp too before booking. I'm also a bit dubious about booking something in July-August months in advance in case we get another boiling hot summer. I wouldn't want to travel all the way to Chichester & back in 30+ degree heat.

I know he's played the Captain already but Gina Beck and Julian Ovenden are such a dream team.

I liked her in South Pacific but isn't she at 41 a bit old to play an innocent novice?

While she is slightly older than has been cast recently, she plays a nun so age vs innocence isn't such an issue as a nun would be more innocent and less world wise anyway.
She also has a youthful look.
Plus I think Mary martin was in her early 40s when she played Maria on broadway

I came here to say how wonderful it is to see an older actress playing Maria in this production!
Indeed, Mary Martin was 45 when she originated the role…

Mary Martin's Maria was over a decade older than Captain Von Trapp as Theodore Bikel was only 35 at the time. Maybe Charlie Stemp could pass for a father of seven?

I didn't mean to sound as an ageist, I guess I have Julie Andrews fixed in my mind as Maria. Just checked and she was 20 when she did the film.
Mary Martin was miscast in my opinion. Checking the original cast album she doesn't look or sound the part. And yes, CS as von Trapp or professor Higgins would also be a mistake.

At first I thought that can't be right but as she is now 90 then she would have done Sound of Music 40 years ago and that sounds about right as I remember seeing her in the show at the Apollo Victoria when I had only been in London a couple of years. God that makes me feel old.

does the script give Maria a specific age beyond her being a hot-headed new member of the convent? Feel like some of this chat is bringing on some ick - Beck will knock it out the park.

I feel obliged to book this if only through FOMO. Shall aim for a £10 ticket during a period when I have fewer bookings, eg August, and if it turns out to be dire - which seems unlikely - I simply won't bother going. However, I expect it will sell well.

Maria was born on 26 January 1905 to Augusta (née Rainer) and Karl Kutschera. In 1924, she entered Nonnberg Abbey, a Benedictine monastery in Salzburg, as a postulant intending to become a nun.
She was 19 when entered the convent.
