Everyone can sign in for free and access a free article but it's a piece about an artistic director who's stepping down and was apparently one of the key Hedwig producers. There's literally one line which is what MattNYC shared above.

I wonder if this is related to the rumour that they want to do a limited revival of the Neil Patrick Harris production to film it? I had heard Broadway, but some shows have done it in the UK as it's cheaper.

You know, up until recently, I knew nothing about this show- the story or the music.
However a little while back the British Film Industry (BFI) at Southbank had a musical season so I went and saw it so that if and when Hedwig does arrive I had some concept about what it's about.

I'm sure it would be too much to hope for JCM reprising the role, as he did in the Broadway production.
No one does the show like him. It's incredible watching him disappear into the character.

I do have to ask the obvious question….
If people are so desperate to see this why not get on a train for two hours and see that brilliant production in Leeds or Manc last year?

I do have to ask the obvious question…. If people are so desperate to see this why not get on a train for two hours and see that brilliant production in Leeds or Manc last year? Because in reality it's probably actually closer to 3 and a half hours (because the train itself is really 2 and a half) to get the train when you factor in the tube first so that's like 7 hours of travelling total which is just not worth it to me, the thought of taking the tube to see a show in London is sometimes enough to put me off and that's usually only a bit less than an hour. Plus the price of a return trip is often near enough £100 so that essentially means your paying £100+ to see the show which I would never pay for any show. I'm very happy for those who find this is worth it but, while I would have loved to see that production, I didn't want to see it quite that much. |

And having seen a LOT of Hedwigs over the years (going back to The Jane), I felt NPH was entirely too self-aware to play all shades of the role. But he's a name and that will bring in an audience. I always want productions to succeed, especially when I love the source material. My two favorite actors in the role were, naturally, JCM and Michael Cerveris. |

I live in Mid Kent and I'm off to Manchester in a few hours to see Betty at The Royal Exchange, then again next month for Head Over Heels at Hope Mill. Total travel costs for each return journey, admittedly using a mix of coach and slower trains, always the cheapest advance tickets, and with Railcard and Coachcard, just £25. And I avoid travelling with Avanti ... Too many shows never reach London, eg, as things stand, Into The Woods seen at Bath, Billy Elliott Leicester, Time Traveller's Wife Chester, What's Up Pussycat Birmingham, Gypsy Buxton and Identical, Nottingham. I did look into Hedwig but wasn't keen from the synopsis. |
