I concur. Please don't blame me if I'm wrong, but I strongly suspect a last minute £12.50 investment will pay dividends, at least mid-week.

We went Tuesday evening and while some back stalls were free, the upper levels were pretty full (to the very back at the top). We had box seats for £19.50 which seemed good value and the staging means most action is easily viewed from that position.

Oh! That does change things, somewhat. I was in a box too, for probably my first and last time. I don't think I'd want to sit in one for a conventional play, as it would be too one-sided, but for a cabaret-style performance like Lady Day it was ideal.
If push comes to shove, you can always move during the interval!!!

For sale for 24 hours Today Tix is doing some £15 tickets for performances this week. I just picked up a central Royal Circle ticket for £15, so if you still want to catch this....

Just got home from finally seeing this and super happy I have. This is such a great show with an incredible performance from Audra McDonald as Billie Holiday. Not once watching it I thought I was watching someone pretending to be her but I thought I was actually watching Billie Holiday perform. I am quite a fan of Holiday so knew I would enjoy it loved the melancholy but also humour through out. But seriously Audra is amazing as Billie through voice and movement and mannerisms. The show went so quickly but at the same time I felt like I had gone through Billie Holidays whole life and knew her all. Very happy with the today tix £15 seats in row I of the stalls, amazing value. I know I will be thinking about this show for the epnext few days. please if you have not seen this yet catch it broke it closes next Saturday and if Audra does not get at least an Olivier nomination I will be very annoyed.
One annoying thing at the show was lots of people left. Did they not know what to expect? This has however made me a bit worried about follies I will be seeing on Saturday as even after 1 hour 40 mins my bum was a bit tired. Guess I will need to wear some very comfy. trousers

Saw this on Thursday and I am so glad I did. Audra's performance was stunning beyond belief.It wasn't a case of imitation but of reincarnation. It was as if Ms Mcdonald had dug down really deep and found Billie Holliday's soul. An unforgettable experience. I have seen her in concert in Madrid and listened to many of her cast recordings and was amazed that she could find such a profound interpretation.
Even the crinkly lady sitting in front of me couldn't spoil my appreciation of such a stellar performance. (see bad behaviour at a show for that anecdote.)
I must admit I was in a good mood before the show started because I commented to the box office person that I had booked the seats some time ago before so many special offers started appearing. I then tentatively asked if an upgrade was possible and the star box office person thought about it said yes. Our upper circle seats were changed to row O of the stalls. What a great gesture.
Anyway tomorrow Saturday is the last day to catch one of the best MT actresses show London why she has won so many Tonys. I urge anyone who is thinking about going to get along to Wyndham's and grab a ticket - I don't think you will regret it.

If it was possible for Audra to be even more incredible at this on Saturday night, she was. It's one of the few performances I've seen where I've forgotten I was watching an actor/actress playing a role and fully believed I was watching that character (it probably helps Billie Holiday was a real person but not the point!) This should go down in the history books for me, and its certainly in the top five performances I've ever seen on stage. You sit there and get drawn in to this woman's life. You laugh with her, you cry for her, and you find that she wasn't given what she deserved in life. But by jove, that voice is like liquid gold. I'll forever be grateful that this came to London, and was the magic that we were all lead to believe it was. Thank you Audra, and we'll see you in April when you come back to pick up that Olivier..  |
