“Although he was born in Newcastle, Michael considers himself Scottish, as he moved to Scone (pronounced Scuin to rhyme with boon) when he was 7 and has studied in Edinburgh.” “Scoon”? Weirdo. Eject.

"Scoon" is definitely how you pronounce the PLACE Scone in Perthshire, notable for Scone Palace, a classic Scots baronial mansion. As a Scot who's visited the palace many times, I'd always say "Scoon" Palace, although I'd never call the baked good a "Scoon". (Two possible pronunciations are enough, we don't need another)

Although I’ve never met anyone from there so I’m guessing I’ve been saying it wrong my whole life if it’s Scoon.

^...the week when Daisy The Cow wanders through the tent and delivers a mighty dump as a judgement on this show since Mary Berry et al left and Fielding/ Toksvig came on board...

It started off a programme about amateur bakers and passing on skills etc. Now it about pitching for a book and a tv show.

Dairy week - not a great one for the show. Theme didn't make much sense
Clearly the instructions for the technical were lacking - given that they all failed to even come close to what was expected of them.
And next week doesn't look much better - stuff with booze in it

I was disappointed this week. Where's the finesse? And I don't think the old feller should have gone, I was struck by the thought as the programme went on that he didn't make great telly, whereas the young'uns who were "in danger" could be viewer favourites further down the line.
I love Noel Fielding. But I preferred Sue and Mel.

I thought the old chap was quite good at joking with Noel and was a bit more entertaining than some of the others. Still can’t believe throwing down a couple of broken tarts in the technical can keep someone in when they didn’t have a stellar showstopper.
Mostly I hate all the tears and fake drama. It’s not a lovely must watch anymore.

This is not a drill. I repeat, this is not a drill.
Russell Tovey is on Extra Slice.

What a bizarre theme week. Didn't make any sense. Don't think the elimination was right.
And no one deserved star baker

The SECOND they showed them saying "I should be safe" you just knew they were going home.

In other competitive cooking shows, you can usually make a fairly educated guess as to who's going home that night based on how much footage there is of them. "Oh, Nathan's struggling today, and we've seen a LOT of him this episode, I guess his time is up". Something about the last couple of weeks of eliminations (this week's were a travesty) makes me think the producers are trying to subvert that trope, but in trying to make it less predictable who's going home based on how much we've seen of them, we're now in a space where the elimination decisions seem to come out of nowhere. There has to be a middle ground; I get you don't want to make it obvious, but at the moment it just looks unwarranted. We should at least be able to reply with "yes, that's fair" when they announce who's going home, rather than a rousing "are you KIDDING but [other person] did SO MUCH WORSE, what an insane decision!".

They are sweet. To me they look like teenagers and it seems like a Blue Peter programme. I agree last night's elimination was bizarre. Unlike Striclty, this kind of subjective judging always looks devious at some point. Why not give points? If they put the technical in order this suggesting points, my not point the rest?

My money is on david for the win he has never had star baker but has been consistanly good throughout! I often find bake off extra slice far much more of an entertaining watch.

I’m going to plump for Steph to win. If it were done with proper scoring , then obvs she has scored most so far. If done show by show then she would have to score most points in the final. It would be fairer as this would really make her a worthy winner if she did. But would also provide excitement. But I suppose the points system would cause other problems.

Going back a few years, Richard was star baker 5 times during the series - and still didn't win

Henry did not deserve star baker for that cake. There were huge gaps between the pieces, it looked a mess. But I suppose they’re keen on him staying in for some reason so his ability has to be talked up.
Rather a lot of “buns” jokes made the edit didn’t they, plus a couple of shots of the boys backsides. I don’t care, I’m all for a bun gag but I wonder if the same would have happened with a bap challenge. Close up on Pru’s cleavage anyone?
Mary Berry is better off out of this.

You're being too harsh on Henry. Funniest person on telly at the moment

Henry is hilarious. Has a great personality that could be used to his advantage afterwards. We have not really had a baker that you truly remember since Nadia. All the rest have been quite forgettable. Plus he dresses up to bake.
