I've very little knowledge about the drag scene in the UK, but i keep seeing the same names doing the rounds in London, none of the ones i know could match the skills of those on the US version. Baga Chipz? Sandra?? Dave Lynn??
This might be a stupid question, but is Ru doing the usual hosting and judging??

Yes, Ru will be doing the UK version
Our drag traditions are very different to the US style - so it will be interesting to see how they blend

Yes, Ru will be hosting thankfully - there were talks a few years back for a UK version but with Jodie Harsh hosting. That fell through for some reason, and as much as I like Jodie, I couldn’t imagine the show working as well without Mama Ru front and centre.

The Thai version was fine without Ru - so it can be fine without her

Michelle's tweet saying she was THE judge, made me wonder if she she stepping up into Ru's spot. I guess she was trying to be funny.

It is Ru's show, Ru's brand - and Ru's reputation on the line. They will want to keep the essence and quality of the US version whilst allowing it to be slightly British.
I did hear rumour of Spice Girls runway challenge (and associated lipsync)

I hope the BBC don't make any attempt to censor the show. It really doesn't work without the language!

I hope the BBC don't make any attempt to censor the show. It really doesn't work without the language! It'll be on BBC Three on iPlayer so it'll be fine. I suspect it'll probably get a post news airing on BBC One.

She does like London...

Yeah. She does Got Talent in Ireland and Drag Race US though... If she does this one too, she will be really busy. I know Drag Race is not live, and even though they air an episode each week they probably film it in a month or so, but still, I'm sure she wants some free time to spend with family and stuff!

From what I have read, the filming days are spent waiting around for Ru to get ready! Each runway is filmed twice so that the judges can have time to come up with their witty lines. The ball days are the longest as each queen needs to change twice.
Would imagine 10 filmimg days for the episodes plus the finale.
I imagine she will fit it in.

Oh wow, that was way shorter than I expected! Only for the judges. The girls obviously have a lot more.

Did you see the furore the other day about the BBC casting call for Pit Crew which specified over 6ft, athletic toned physique, no tattoos (that’s yours truly out of the picture then). Anyway there were squeals of “body shaming!” “racism!” and “pandering to gay stereotyping!” blah blah blah. I was actually pleasantly surprised that the Beeb are apparently trying to recreate the show in a form that we might actually recognise. Because let’s face it, the hideously PC BBC is the very last broadcaster you’d give this to if you were in charge isn’t it? www.independent.co.uk/life-style/drag-race-uk-advert-body-shaming-men-pit-crew-twitter-instagram-a8755946.html

How can it be racist to specify over 6ft, athletic and no tatts??

My thoughts exactly.
Anyway, of course they're looking for hot, muscular people for the Pit Crew. That's the point.
The no tattoo thing, that's what I don't get. What's the problem?

Tattoos can cause issues if they are explicit/offensive in nature - but on the whole, I agree, that there is no real problem with tattoos these days.

I couldn't find a thread for this even though I'm convinced I remember seeing one when it was first announced so feel free to merge, mods.
This starts filming in March with Alan Carr and Graham Norton having just been announced as alternating judges ala Carson and Ross on the US version. They join Michelle and Ru on the panel.
There's no broadcast date yet although it's rumoured to be around Autumn time. It will be on BBC3 which is solely an online channel but I imagine that won't be a problem as the target market at all online now anyway.
There's going to be 10 queens so I'm guessing it will be around 8 episodes long.
