Solid and funny old fashioned play, shades of Ayckbourn, a bit of Wilde and also Plautus, One servant, Two masters vibe in first act. Nice acting, usual high standard from this venue. The play discusses women’s work and marriage but doesn’t say anything new just says it in a pleasant, frothy kind of way.
Tom Littler was there checking on this preview. He said he has planned a good programme for the next year at Jermyn St though of course he is off to Richmond.

Ahh Tom Littler has done wonders with the place and helped make this one of my favourite London theatres. Still yet to see a show here which I didn’t enjoy and the staff here are all terrific too. Looking forward to seeing the show next week!

Very good acting and direction. But as is usually the way with "rediscoveries" a second-rate play. I read some Dorothy L. Sayers novels and short stories recently and found them quite long-winded and plodding. I think some first-class TV adaptations of her work have given me a mistaken impression about the quality of her writing. Tom Littler in the auditorium throughout, he really is one of the most visible and approachable ADs in London, he will be appreciated in Richmond. |

I am surprised no one has revived Busman's Honeymoon. It was first conceived as a play and I am sure a Wimsey/Vane stage show would easily find an audience.
Needs a single (if slight elaborate) set. Script stands up pretty well as a period piece

I enjoyed this very much - a window into a bygone era with some very convincing performances. The show last Friday was well attended by friends of the theatre and everyone seemed well engaged with the play. Tom Littler is going to be sorely missed at this place but he leaves it a much stronger place than when he first joined it. I look forward to returning for for another visit soon
