Light in the Piazza In Concert - Alexandra Palace

I'm in the interval and it's really great. More blocking and staging than I was expecting and everyone sounds incredible, as does the orchestra (the vocals are occasionally overpowered by the music and there have been a couple missed mic cues but otherwise pretty seamless). Only a few people who aren't off-book as well.

At the start, Alex Parker said this is likely to be the last Quick Fantastic concert for the time being due to the current climate around producing these kinds of things in theatre right now, perhaps that's what the other factor referred to above is? They've closed the circle so I've been upgraded to the fourth row of the stalls which is nice but sad to see it's sold so poorly, though it was inevitable with those prices.

I think this is a combination of timing, venue, show, casting and pricing just not coming together and appealing to people in a way that other shows have.

Bonnie and Clyde sold out pretty much immediately. The recent drury lane concerts did well (albeit Kinky Boots less so than Treason/Chess).

Do a one night concert of Waitress with Bareilles and you’d sell out in a heartbeat. People were not crying out for another concert version of Light in the Piazza, at a hard to get to location, on a Sunday evening, and at very high prices.

It was such a shame to see so many empty seats but can’t help but be amazed at the audacity of charging over £100 to seat half your audience on metal school assembly chairs (half of which were empty)

Most of the cast were outstanding, Amara was a stunning Clara, Amy DiBartolomeo gave an incredible performance. I thought Jordan was out of his depth but did his best, his fans seemed to be very happy with his performance.

I thought Elena Shaddow did a fantastic job with Margaret, having previously seen Lucy Schaufer, Jasna Ivir and Renee Fleming in the role, all giving very different yet brilliant performances, Elena had a more youthful quality and impressed me a lot.
