What on earth is this?
Currently watching this on sky tv and cannot believe how hokey it is.
Take away the set and staging and all you have is Alfie Boe trying desperately to act and everyone else standing in a line, still, looking anxiously out at the audience for 3 hours.
Michael Ball hopelessly miscast.
At least there’s a big full orchestra to enjoy.
Shan Ako is wonderful though.

The problem is, as mrbarnaby points out above, that the TAC is pretty much absolutely perfect in every single way. Every concert production since has felt like a rehash of “the perfect night” of Les Mis. The casting decisions haven’t worked for me, mainly because they used some of the best ever performers in LM history first time around.
In short, I’ve seen the Boe/Ball concert twice (once live and then once more at home, just to confirm I didn’t like it) and I’ve seen the TAC I’d estimate about 50 times.

I saw the staged concert twice live and really enjoyed both times. The 25th Anniversary concert at the o2 was spectacular but was nice seeing it in a smaller venue.

But I will say it has a very strong ensemble and supporting cast who outshine every single 'star' |

I thought Carrie did really well. And Michael was poorly, to be fair, you can hear it in his voice. But Alfie.... no thank you.
