So its my friends birthday and even though I'm obsessed with theatre he has never been. I thought I would treat to tickets to see a show together however the issue is its in mid September and also a Monday. So some shows are in the dark
Is there anything that people would recommend for a man in his late 30s, who has never been to see a show before?
I was thinking Tina, though I have not seen it myself and no idea if it will live up to the hype or Come From Away which I recently saw and fell in love with.
Anything goes is still on however wondering if Sutton at that point will still be with the show or moved on for music man.
Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated. Don't mind also fringe, cabaret etc

I don't think Anything Goes does Mondays so it can't be that unfortunately. I think Come From Away is a great shout, it's a very crowd-pleasing show. Looking up other shows there's not much else playing on a Monday. I've not seen it but & Juliet is pretty undivisive from what I've read, and since it's a jukebox musical maybe it'll be more accessible if that kind of music is their thing. And I guess the same could be said for Tina, if they like her music you probably can't go too wrong.

I’d go CFA or ‘& Juliet’. Both very accessible, and enjoyable in different ways.

If he likes Tina Turner then totally. If he doesn’t then no no no.
It’s very hard to suggest without knowing the person’s tastes to be honest.
Disney? Frozen?

&Juliet would be my first option however it opens the week after I need. Always the way Took my musical-hating sister to & Juliet and she LOVED IT. It’s funny, has a great set of songs and an extremely talented cast. Perfect for a new theatre goer.

Not sure if it will be open by then but Book Of Mormon might be a good choice.

Come From Away is the show I recommend to pretty much everyone. I've never known anyone to leave disappointed!

Come from away is theatre at its finest. A proper ensemble, story telling and a huge heart.

I’d say &Juliet is a pretty safe bet. Or Back to the Future.
It’s closed on Mondays but I’d say Anything Goes probably wouldn’t be for a first time musical goer !

I wouldn't recommend "Anything goes" as someones first show. It is very good but it is also a classic, i.e. old fashioned and what people think musicals will be like based on what seeing another rerun of an MGM classic on on a wet Sunday on BBC2
Show them something modern (and good) that shows them what contemporary shows can do. I'm not sure what is open but I'd echo the suggestions for Come from away, &juliet. (Does it have to be that Monday? Dear Evan Hansen is (in my opinion) very good but I think some here hated it. Six?
It really does depend on what they are into/like. Any clues?
