I’ve never seen MFL on stage so a classic production with a lovely cast would deffo get me down to London, or seeing a tour. I’m sure many would feel the same given that it’s an iconic film. I can appreciate that for those who have seen it many times that sort of production would be less appealing but I suppose that’s the reason OAT are updating Carousel? I’m sure there’s room for both approaches.

I'm watching this on the iPlayer now, but it's also on Radio 2 I think, with added Elaine Paige.
I'm a big FNIMN fan, so it's lovely to know what Richard Balcombe looks like! And see the instruments in the BBC Concert Orchestra. (And the rather handsome leader!)

I've just worked out why Katie Hall looked so familiar. I had a nagging feeling I recognised her!
She was in some of the early episodes of I'd Do Anything. She must have only been 16 or 17 then.

What has your ‘estimated time of arrival’ got to do with any of this? I think it has been lovely so far and the talky bits just give some background to the songs. Or perhaps this uncomplicated BBC2 viewer isn’t getting it? Not enjoying the pronunciation of meadow as ‘medder’ but it’s only to be expected on such a lowbrow channel I suppose. 😘 "Edited to add". I'm being driven up the wall by the talking between every single number. Why can't they just be quiet & let the music do the talking? I'm almost as much annoyed by the camerawork. Usually filmed versions of live events are marketed as giving you a better view than being in the audience. The Proms must be the only one that gives you a worse view, by keeping on having shots from up at the very top of the RAH! I'm currently listening to repeat of the first night on radio 3. It's a delayed start due to an artists cuff link. Now that is padding from the presenters, it's also sounds like a Victoria Wood sketch...

I once arrived for a conference in Bridlington without my cufflinks. I thought I was going to have to sew myself into my dress shirt, but thankfully Burtons came to the rescue. We'll miss Monty now he's gone.

Finally got around to watching this. Wish I had actually gone to see it now. It is so good. Jamie Parker would be perfect for Henry Higgins at the ENO next year. Some others on here have said they didn't like the commentary between musical numbers. I actually really enjoyed that bit and there were some interesting stories especially from Bonnie and all the people she has worked with. Was the event not sold to capacity or did it just not sell well as there were so many empty seats which you rarely see at a Proms concert. Maybe people are still reluctant to attend these things. Also it's great to see the singers perform without the score in their hands. I know they probably have autocue in front of them but it's great to see. I've attended so many concert performances where the cast have performed with the score and it does annoy me slightly that they haven't learnt the part to be able to perform without it.

Both, I believe. There were loads of seats available on the day, including the bargain price day seats. I was also very tempted but I just couldn't change my day around to attend. It came across really well on TV.

Well this was the perfect cure for my post-London blues.
I rather enjoyed the asides and anecdotes from Katie et al, but with all three of them holding a pile of cards as thick as a telephone directory, I suspect they were well rehearsed and far from spontaneous.
I'm even prepared to overlook the pumps being worn by one of the cellists, Neil Brand's 'brave' choice of jacket and the length of the trousers on both Nadim Naaman and Jamie Parker. Between them, they had an unnecessary eight inches! 🙂
With tickets so easy to come by this year, it's a real shame the audience in the Hall wasn't larger.
Five stars from me.
