So, this appears to be three weeks of rehearsals that you can watch on-line with at the end one run-through of the complete play. It seems to be £20 if you want to see the run-through.
Is anyone intending to book for this ? The rehearsals strike me as being of very limited appeal for such an unfamilar play. Not sure why they didn't just do a rehearsed reading of the play after a few hours rehearsal like they do for "Read Not Dead" at the Globe - they are good fun.

They should make it free to all. They have taken huge sums of public money and delivered very little in return.
I won't pay for this sort of lack of commitment to their own core objectives

The whole thing should be free. No justification for charging to see a rehearsed reading like this. Particularly when it means the play doesn't get a full production in this cycle.
Makes me so angry

They are a disgrace to my mind.
I no longer value their work or leadership.
Only a new artistic team can hope to rebuild what was great.
The past year May have been ok for schools,I doubt it,but nothing more and now one show and a kindness shop in town
I share your anger.

With every other theatre I follow opening soon I fear the RSC will look rather foolish with their single outdoor production as the year continues. Why not do a few performances of Henry VI Pt 1 outdoors ? I would have thought it would be unappealing for the actors to rehearse for 3 full weeks and never perform it in front of an actual audience.
I’m all for rehearsed readings though. There are some actors who are really good at them - Alan Cox is one.

Even the local group that I am involved in is being more ambitious than the RSC this year
We are doing an outdoor season of The Cherry Orchard and As You Like It. A couple of shorts - Baggage and It's True! It's True! It's True. Then an autumn season of a new verse translation of Andromache followed by Our Country's Good. We are also producing a radio play of a script that won our new writing competition.
If enthusiastic amateurs can do that in 6 months, what the hell are the RSC doing with all their millions?

It is all stuff we had planned for last year just moved and reimagined for 2021.
But it shows what you can do if a company pulls together.

..... what the hell are the RSC doing with all their millions? What they normally do: paying their hundreds of staff and their Artistic Director, engaging full companies of actors for rehearsals, doing building work, doing educational projects. The fact that they can do all that without actually staging any productions I'm sure they regard as a bonus.

I miss my little overnight trips to SuA (s’up £29 Premier Inn special deal!) much more than I miss the actual RSC productions themselves. Not that the RSC haven’t done wonderful productions but it’s been a long time since I found them inspiring as a company.
I’ll watch the rehearsal since I’m doing some work stuff on that play anyway, but the RSC just isn’t on the radar right now.

The past year has been telling hasn't it on how we have come to view individuals theatres for their output/engagement/communication/plans etc. I've been really impressed with some and less so with others and that's going to stick in my head I should think if I ever start booking again.
