There's also a Grease TV series set in Rydell High which is going to air on HBO Max in the US.
It's a bit strange they've gone for a prequel, a second sequel set in the 1970s that focuses on Danny and Sandy's teenage son or daughter would have more potential or if they wanted to go further forward, set it in the 90s and focus on their grandchild.

I love Grease. I really do, as most do. I mean, it's the 'word', right?
However when I saw the last revival production at The Piccadilly Theatre about 10 years ago or so (trust me) I did not have a blast!
In fact, in the 17 year + that I have lived in London it was- controversial comment I know- arguably one of the worse things I have ever seen on stage. That and Dirty Dancing.
I simply do not understand the Brits obsession with the Dirty Dancing film.
Actually, to be fair, even after all this time there are quite a few things that I still not understand the Brits obsession with.

I mostly agree anthony40 . I love the film Grease, it’s one of my favourites, however I’ve never really enjoyed the stage show. It always seems to be missing something, which I think just proves how iconic the performances are in the film. I’m on the fence about this new announcement so will wait for more details. (I do however love the Dirty Dancing film too 😊) |

Grease can be done well but the 1993 production which was revived at the Piccadilly 13 years ago and was trotted out on many tours needs to put out to pasture.
The film is great but much like Rocky Horror, it's really its own entity as the original musical was a satire of 50s subculture and movies, Sandy going from goody-two shoes to glamour puss is actually a subversion of 50s movies where the bad boy would change to win the girl.

Guess this is more of an insight into my brain and though process more that anything but we've all see this film and the Summer Loving song and hasn't cracked out a funky dance move at a daily Birthday, wedding or Bar Mitzvah, pretending that their either a T-Bird or a Pink Lady however for me every time I see this song being sung in this film two things always stand out for me.
Two things that you've probably all seen but either noticed or given a second thought.
1. When Sandy is blissfully singing away, whipping the girls into a romantic frenzy Rizzo who is lying on a bench sings the line "Caus he sounds like a drag" and kicks the off the bench onto a nearby garbage bin, knocking it over and they just keep singing whilst the pick themselves up and compose themselves;
and
2. Towards the end of the song Sandy folds her arms and sings "it turned colder, that where it ends" and distances herself from the group, rejecting and as she does she passes a male worker from the lunch cafeteria who is sitting on a bench, wearing an apron with his head resting in his fist and I can't help but wonder 'what is he thinking?'

She was (apparently) the oldest cast member. I knew they were all too old to be teenagers but I never realised that Stockard was in her mid 30s at the time of filming! |

She looks great for 76 though! I saw her a copule of years back in a play call Apologia at the trafalgar studios- it was definitely her but the plastic surgery didn't help. |

There had never been a legal production with all the film songs in before and the casting was next level. The first tour of it wasn’t too bad (Sonia & Shane Ritchie...it should’ve been ghastly!) but as A40 says it was just diminishing returns after that. I’m really looking forward to seeing the ‘new’ version. |
