Well, they tried… but maybe they shouldn’t have! Just seemed so dated and irrelevant. Will be interested to know what other board members think… if anyone else bothers to go!

Saw this last night. It doesn't really work as a musical - the resetting of the story in a night club was just an easy way to bolt half of the songs on to the plot but few of them pushed the drama along and they felt like add ons. Having said that though, I enjoyed it and the time flew by, mainly due to the excellent cast and clever production. It was great to see Jacqui Dankworth, and she has some of the best songs which she performed immaculately - but she has little to do with the plot, being just the lead singer in the club.
The premise of the story didn't really feel that dated to me and I think it was dealt with more delicately than in the film. I actually think there's a decent musical buried somewhere in this but it needs major tweaking to find it.

If there is a modern version of 'Not Since Carrie' the book will be called 'Not Since Indecent Proposal'
All the leads have been fantastic in other shows, but not one of them can make this work.
I could write so much more about it, but none of it remotely good. I'll stick to the positives: There's a kitsch hostess trolley in the first half (but even that is all wrong for this)
Edit: I have never been embarressed for a performer before. Tonight i couldnt sink down into my seat enough. Not because of their performance, but because of the material they had to work with in Act 2.

I found Act 2 better than Act 1 but agree this is a misfire of a show (I adore ‘Pretty Woman’ & so thought this had potential) What a shame but sometimes musical adaptations just don’t work!

I was amazed to read in the programme that this has had numerous workshops before this production. If this was the material they kept, how bad was the stuff they cut.
The song that Annie sang towards the end of Act 2 was ok, but it couldn't redeem the show in any way.

The more terrible people keep saying it is, the more I want to go and see for myself. So there's that...

Has no one else been to see this yet? Would love to know what others thought.
