Excellent review Steve - one small point though - it is David Threlfall in The Old Tune, not David Thewlis Ha, ha, thank you, Altamont, I just saw your correction and changed it, as I don't want to upset a wonderful actor by forgetting his name. On the other hand, I'm actually delighted I forgot it, as half the play is exactly about the way we forget names, dates and details. I am as doddery as the characters lol. |

I largely agree with what Steve says, though I would opine the effect of these one-act jobbies may be related to how far you are along the road. As pieces of work - art - I wouldn't disagree with the ratings but Krapp's Last Tape hit me quite hard, and I tend to think that effect was probably not unrelated to age. I just love Beckett's tape/time machine as a theatrical device. So completely perfect. |

Just looking at the casting for their Tempest in March. Of course for such a small space there is lots of doubling of parts but one doubling is potentially very interesting in the context of the play and I’ve never seen it done before, same actor playing Ferdinand and Caliban, the two “suitors” of Miranda.

Kirsty Bushell as Miranda i see. Must be the first actress to play that role having already played Regan in Lear and Ravenskaya in Cherry Orchard!! |

Something about Beckett which pulls you in and you just don’t know how he does it. I mean the second piece was a guy sitting doing nothing except everything. All that faffing about you see with some plays these days which try to tell us what to think, well, come and look at this stuff. Except it was the last night last night..so moving on, try The Tempest coming up next.
Jermyn St the place to be this season.
