Way too Big for the Menier, anyway this s a developed musical which the Menier doesn’t do. Would be great for the Bridge Theatre, could sit there for up to a year, whilst both Nick’s focus on the new Kings Cross project. What is a developed musical and why don't the MCF do them? |

The MCF have done transfers from the US - Into the Woods and the Bacharach thingy

Would the Bridge welcome an open-ended run? I guess they could do a limited run but if it catches on like it's done on Broadway they might not want to limit it! Has it really "caught on" though? It only opened in April, will close again in January and has consistently been discounting. I don't know how long the Off-Broadway run was before that and it's certainly not a bad run for something so "different" and divisive, but considering the love for Rodgers/Hammerstein's big musicals in the USA, if there hasn't been more curiosity about this over there, I don't see how or why it would set a London Box Office on fire. A six-month-run in a small-ish venue would probably count as a success here. The Menier and Young Vic might be just a tad too small though (and Young Vic has announced their schedule through 2020 already), but The Bridge may be perfect. |

Just finished listening to the OBC and I'm afraid it's not for me.
Think I will stick to the John Wilson Proms version.

"Close To You." The only show ever where you could walk up to the box office and ask for "an armchair on the stage, please" and not get a funny look. Think they also eventually put a plaque on regular Stasia 's place on the sofa. Only been there 2 times! (but apparently that was enough to get an invitation to hang ot with the cast at the NYE party!) And currently there's another show with onstage seats I am obsessed with - The View Upstairs |

Has it really "caught on" though? It only opened in April, will close again in January and has consistently been discounting. It's caught on far more than it was expected to. It's only selling through January to keep the ticket "tight" . I'm pretty sure they'll announce an extension by the end of October ( or maybe they will close in January by which time they should have recouped .) The discounts that OK is offering aren't that significant. The key number to look at when assessing the grosses is the average ticket price - for Oklahoma it's $107 which is ( as far as the producers are concerned ) decently healthy. As opposed to Beetljuice with a $94 average price - their gross is healthy for now but what that indicates is a serious TKTS discount and that's unsustainable for a long run - it means the advance is shrinking and they are surviving on a day-to-day walk-up business. When school starts their grosses could plummet significantly. We shall see. |
